Fired up by b7510. Started doing a little work. It died and then wouldn't turnover or fire...nothing. I put a trickle charge on the battery so it's full. I turn the key and it sometimes makes a clicking sound and other times just sits there.

If I had to guess perhaps it's a relay or switch? Any suggestions on what to check before I call the shop?

Appreciate any ideas.

Start with the simple things first, remove battery cables. Completly. From tractor. Clean and re-install with a new bolt on frame. . Takes a bit of time but its free.
Take the necessary steps to eliminate faults starting at the source (battery) then move to fuses, safety and ignition switches.

The engine shouldn't be too fussy about electrics (enough to cut out) unless it's a direct short.

I'm not sure if yours has a decompression knob but if so have you tried pulling this out and turning over?

You can double check the starter is good by a set of jump leads direct from battery to the starter terminals.

Sounds more likely to be a simple issue with the ignition switch or a wire from it if it's intermittent and clicking now. Have a look and see how far you can trace wires from the switch to make sure they haven't fretted or an end crimp broken off. If you have multimeter or test lamp you should be able to test the ignition switch as well.

If it started and ran fine, Id start with safety switches. Seat, PTO, HST pedals... I jumped off my B7610 once and it shutdown. Wouldn't restart, turned out I bumped PTO lever enough to activate safety switch but not engage PTO.

Update: I put a trickle charger on the battery and still wouldn't start. The cable terminal connectors were corroded so I replaced them and took the time to coat all metal surfaces in the area with a rust inhibitor. While I replaced the connectors I put the trickle charger on again. After 30 minutes it was still showing charging. Tried to start and clicking only.

This was the original battery with the old fillable chambers. I decided to spring for a new battery (Duracell). Put it in and...fired right up. So, it wasn't a switch or relay...it was just an old battery that couldn't do the job anymore.

Thanks to everyone for our suggestions.

Nice! My Ol L175 was a hard starter, always used decompression lever. I replaced the battery and found out the negative cable was aluminum and trashed. Replaced all cables and it started beautifully after that....
