B7100 PTO Shaft repair

1978 B7100D.

PTO shaft is moving fore-aft leaking large amounts of fluid. Can I simply pull the cover and replace the bearing and seals? I am concerned about the bearing. Has anyone done one of these and if so, were you able to do it without tearing further into the case?
