Having trouble installing new fan belt. Can't get the tension pulley to move. Not a lot of room to work in. Any help is appreciated.

I had a similar problem. Use plenty of WD40. Slacken nut in centre of tension pulley. Then start easing tension adjusting bolt using spanner. When you have slackened this bolt a bit, you can start tapping the actual pulley. It will be free to move within its guide in both directions - slacken or tighten.

When the old belt was off, I dismantled the whole tension pulley arrangement and cleaned off the rust etc.

I would try some Kroil or P B blaster oil on it. Either of these is about the best you can use on rusty bolts. Spray some in there and let it set for a minute and it will usually work free. If I was ranking them I would put the Kroil in first place. The smell alone is enough to break most rusty bolts loose.

There were some tests done and they found that a 50/50 mix of ATF and Acetone worked better than kroil :

Thanks for the advice. Finally got it loose. Fan belt is on. We're back in business, running like a top. Thanks to everyone.

Yea, and read all the comments below. Someone else did the same test and said there was no difference in any of them. When I retire and and am bored with nothing to do, I'll run my own test. Wait. I'll be so old , I won't be able to turn a wrench and won't care which one works. Keep the torch close......

You said it IPZ, everyone will argue over which is best. I know the Kroil and the PB works good but the gas hatchet is the always faithful stuck bolt remover.
