I opened the drain on the bell housing of my B7100 (B7001) and got out about 1/2 quart or so of what looked like hydraulic fluid. I have read the drain is supposed to be to drain water that has gotten in there after fording streams or working rice paddies. I've read the actual plug isn't really needed (housing should stay drained) and the plug is just to keep critters out.

Anyone know where the 1/2 quart may have come from? Hydraulic system seems to be functioning normally. I was low and I topped it off. I have not noticed any loss of fluid since.

I am talking about the drain plug rearward of the oil drain plug.

I meant gear drive vs hst, 4wd vs 2wd, 6 bolt front wheel hub or 4 bolt.

But Ok, it's a grey-market B7001 so probably gear drive and 4 bolt front wheels.

I don't know about the gear drive transmission. North Idaho Wolfman probably could answer this, but he's been scarce lately. I don't think there is any way for hydraulic oil to get into the clutch bell with the HST version -- the shaft between clutch and transmission passes through an open casting between the two. There's actually a grease nipple for the throwout mechanism that is accessed through the open bottom of that casting. I think the gear drive is similar.

However, engine oil seeping past the rear main bearing seal could accumulate in the bell. Any chance it's actually engine oil?

That would be my guess, unless the seal on your hydraulic pump has failed, and it is leaking hydraulic oil into the crankcase.
Then you would have a combination engine oil and hydraulic fluid that could leak from the rear main seal into the bell housing.
Do you "gain" any oil on the engine dipstick?
Does it always read high?
