Hi all. I just ordered a Betstco Flail to replace my aging Bush Hog. Does anyone have this combo and will the PTO shaft have to be shortened?

Welcome to the forum!
Multiple variables involved- be prepared to shorten it. You might not need to, but it's often required.

You need the mower and the tractor to take measurements. I feel the best way is with the mower actually on the three point, then you need only measure the required length and go from there. Note, the PTO shaft should end up about six inches shorter than your measurement to allow the mower to raise completely without binding on the PTO shaft.

More than likely you will have to shorten it some. I think I had to shorten mine approx 6-8" for my BETSCO flail.

Thank you. I know how, it's that the mower hasn't been delivered yet and I was courious. I had to cut my tiller PTO also. The B2601 is not a very big tractor. The lift arms seem short compared to some I have used.

Different tractor I know but I had to shorten mine. Don’t remember how much , I think 3-5 inches. First time I ever messed with a PTO shaft. Had my 16 year old son help with measuring and watching how to videos.lol

i know this is an old thread, but how are you liking the flail? been looking at either a bestco, or the 54" woodmax. i have a bx2380, with about 18hp at the pto.
the wooded area i need to keep clean, a rotary cutter would just be to big to move around.

Haven't used it yet. Snow on the ground. I intend to cut as much brush as I can before the buds and leaves show up. Looked at the Woodmax, but the smaller drum and tiny height adjustment were big negatives for me. There are some videos on YouTube of people using the Betstco on a BX and seem satisfied.
