First fluid change coming up and I’ve read the factory filters are …snug.

Searched for the filter sizes online but couldn’t find an answer… went to the local auto store, did some test fitting with new OEM filters this oil filter cup wrench seems to fit all three filters for a B2301.

Shortcut below.

Had good luck with this type of wrench on the Harley’s figured I would try it on the tractor. It was a bonus 1 size fits all three.

There’s no reason to over-torque spin-on filters…hand tighten until the gasket contacts the base then only one full turn is often the “rough” rule…. Also, do not use oil or grease on the gasket. The reason that is often recommended on the instructions is to lubricate the gasket so it won’t distort during installation. Unfortunately, hardened/coked oil or grease is often the reason the filter get “stuck” onto the machine. Silicone-grease is used on aircraft spin on filters to lube the gasket…..which also doesn’t “coke” like oil/grease to stick the gasket to the machine.…and makes removal less troublesome.

Here’s the instructs from Lycoming: “ the oil-filter gasket should be lubricated with a thin coating of Dow Corning Compound (DC-4) before the filter is installed. The filter should then be installed and hand-tightened until the seating surface makes contact with the lubricated gasket. The filter should then be turned with a torque wrench until a torque of 18-20 foot pounds is reached. The 20-foot pound maximum torque should not be exceeded.”

Update… the cup style wrench was a bust. Not sure if its’s the factory painted filter or just not quite the right size filter shape. Could not get them to lock on properly to put any torque on them. Too bad, they are great for the Harley. Ended up using a cheap strap wrench I’ve had forever.
