B2150 steering

Hello everyone! I come again in search of advice if anyone can help. I have a B2150 with 7700 hours on the clock. Starts perfectly and is great for some small jobs around our small holding. There is an oil leak out from the top of the steering column. Question 1. How do I top this up so that I can be sure it doesnt run out? Question 2. Does anyone know what the problem is and would it be the sort of repair I could take on myself?

I had to find a picture of a B2150 because I wasn't familiar with your tractor. Oil leaking from the top of the steering column is cause for alarm. Replacement steering boxes for Kubotas are quite expensive, at least to me. Fortunately if you are mechanically inclined it is an owner servicable part.

I haven't been into a power steering box on a tractor, but seals should be fairly easy to replace. If I am wrong (it has happened a time or two), Vic should be along during the workweek to correct us.

Hi Robert! Thanks for the response. I'm usually game to take on a repair myself.... but experience ... and I do mean experience! .....has shown that its always better to have a good idea of whats going on before we dismantle anything!

Having the same problem. Have it stripped down but not taken out. Not sure how high the fluid is suppose to go. Up to the bearing and then the bearing seal stops the flow or? Have a shop manual but doesn't address the flow. Anyone know about the steering fluid flow?

Mine had a leak on the steering gear and oil was running down but I got lucky and found a fitting was just a bit loose, was a pain getting in to tighten but it cured mine. The steering is run off the main hydraulic system so if the level on the tranny drivetrain/ hydraulic dipstick is good no worries.
If you take the 4 screws out that hold the gauge cluster in you can look down on top of it to see where the oil is coming from be it a fitting or a seal.

I guess my question is, does the fluid go to the needle bearing on the steering shaft column for lubrication since the bearing has an oil seal or should it get that far? I haven't determined how it gets up the steering column to the steering wheel. Thanks!

If you have oil in the column tube and coming out under the steering wheel then you have a definite issue with a bad seal.

Which seal? The one at the needle bearing on the steering column or lower in the gear box itself?

My B2100 had a leak at the top of the steering box. Replacing the seal is fairly easy. Had to remove the upper steering shaft from the tractor. This seal is about 12" below the steering wheel.
Are you saying your B2150 is leaking at the steering wheel? .... that would be a different design than mine.

At the gear box, there should not be oil in the column tube at all. All the one at the top of the column is for is keeping water and dirt from getting into the tube.
