I have just bought a B1750HST and am checking fluids. I am looking for a manual but haven't got one yet.

There is a dipstick in front of of the seat which I assume is the transmission hydraulic level. There was nothing showing this morning (level was below the bottom of the dipstick). I have put in about half a quart and it is now at the bottom of the dipstick.

The guy I bought it off said he checked the levels. I used it for an hour yesterday right after I got it home.

Am I checking it right? The tractor is on a level surface and is cold (not started since yesterday). Should I top it up to the mark cold or hot?

Should I be worried that it was running this low? I see from the Kubota website that the capacity is 14.3 quarts.

I wouldn't worry about 1 hour usage at 1 quart low.
I always check things cold because you should verify your fluids BEFORE you use it. Meaning; if it was 4 quarts low and you worked for 6 hours NOW I'd worry.
The walk around, fluids and grease would eliminate unexpected failures. Fluids check includes fuel. Carrying fuel and tools from the barn to restart is such a bore.

Thanks Birddogger, I topped it up and used it for another hour or so. When cold, it dropped a bit but not much.

The leak appears to be from the rear pto seal. It looks like it has been damaged by a drive shaft (is that the right word - I'm new to tractors).

I have some work for the mower to do urgently - a couple of paddocks that need clearing before the next rain. Access is over a boggy bit of ground and we are coming into winter here.

I'll keep an eye on the level and top up for now, then figure out how to change the seal - should be simple - right? :)
