B1750 Diff lock problem

I have a B1750HST that has intermittent diff problems that I think are caused by the diff lock.

It runs fine much of the time but sometimes the diff lock engages when I haven't stepped on the lever. It also locks up the rear wheels occasionally when I change from forward to reverse.

I have been using it for mowing but am worried that something will jam and break.

I read that a spring can break in the diff case. Has anyone removed the diff cover and fixed this? Is it reasonably straightforward to do?

Sounds like you have more issues than just the diff lock if the wheels are locking up.
Pull it apart and get a look inside!
