I'm helping my father out. His Sheer Bolts were both toasted. I purchased some replacements and first one, no problem. Second one is another story. It appears that he ran it while it was sheered and I can not for the life of me locate the hole for the new one. I did do a search here and tried the q tip with a light thing but I still can not find the darn hole. Is there a way to remove just that one shaft or do you need to remove everything just to get the shaft out?

It might be helpful if you post the make/model of the PHD, so other that have the same one can chime in with specifics.

Also might help if you explain the location where the particular bolt hole you can't find is located.

MY guess is that either the bolt sheared off cleanly on both sides, and remains in the hole as a kind of plug, OR the two pieces that have the holes in them that the bolt has to go through, need to either be separated a bit or pushed together a bit to find the hole. How to do that...not sure what you have...but certainly someone here can help.

Thank you, and right...not sure what I was thinking. It's a BX5450 blower. I agree that sheared off and he kept running it. I thought I would be able to see at least an outline of the bolt to punch it out, but I have rotated the auger on the shaft in what seems to be every conceivable manor, with light and q tips and I can not find it. I lined up the augers so they were the same orientation and tapped the shaft with a punch with no results. So, I'm guessing the next step is to pull it. I'm just afraid that it does entail pulling the whole front off..

The holes for the shear pins on the auger will be in line on the shaft.
look for wear marks because a lot of times the auger will shift right or left and the shear pin will be off set from the hole in the auger, check both sides of the gear box for that shifting, just push it back to where the wear marks line up.
