OK got her built and it shoots a lot better in younger hand, with younger eyes than in my old hands with old eyes. So I need something to see through,, and right now a scope and bases got to be around 100 bucks, yeah I know but thats what I have to spend. So any ideas

For a hundred bucks you won't get much. Maybe a cheapo Weaver or a Tru-Glow.

I usually spend a C-note on the rings and 1500-2 grand on the scope. I have spent more, I just don't tell my wife about it....

Not sure what kind of distances you're shooting.
I had a Vortex strike eagle on mine with BDC reticle. Nice scope, but more than you want to spend. It also made my AR pretty heavy.

So, the latest iteration for me is that the AR is now topped with a Sig Romeo 5 2 moa red dot (cost was $110). I much prefer it over the scope out to 150 yds. If you need magnification, Sig has a package (Romeo and Juliet) that combines the red dot with a 3x magnifier.

The Sig Romeo 5 was recommended to me. I haven't shot it but its bright and easy for these old eyes to see. And, it look like its pretty sturdy. All metal and what appears to be real glass. Comes with the tall co-witness mount. Reportedly, you can gettem on ebay for around $75 -if your lucky. Simple operation with easy brightness controls. Simple red dot that is bright in sunlight and blinding unless you turn it down (easy) in the dark. Uses a standard 2032 big watch battery (cheap and good shelf life). Did I miss anything?

Red Dot makes a good one for about that price that a few of my friends like.

:)

I guess we should all ask, do you want a magnified optic or some sort of red dot fast acquisition sight?

You can get a Nikon Buckmaster for $120-$130. Not the greatest by any stretch as our esteemed colleague above likes to remind everyone, but it's better than alot.

I'll look through my spare parts box as i think i have a pair of rings. If i can find them, you can have them for free.

I'll add that the Romeo 5 has "MOTAC" as well. That's "motion activated illumination". Meaning, you just leave the red dot "On". But it will go to sleep after about 2 mins if left undisturbed. It will turn on instantly as soon as there is any movement of the rifle. Would not be a good idea if your's is a "truck" or "tractor" gun. ;)

Also I'll add that the red dot is very crisp (at least mine anyway). I also have a cheap unit (Bushnell TRS-25) on a Ruger 10/22. The reticle is not very good with my astigmatism.

I shoot aperture sights out to about 125 yds. The Burris AR 332 works about as well and can be found for not too much money. (Try Optics Planet)
Scopes Don't seem to better my scores at less than 100 over the aperture sights. But at longer ranges they are easier to shoot half assed with.

this is a good way to go on an AR. (ive got 3 of these exact scopes on AR's)

keeps ya in da budget & regardless of what the "tacticool" ar goofs tell you...

its still an AR. ya just dont need a big expensive scope on an AR.

:D

I am guessing we are kind of close. So you shot at ranges like I would. 1x6 is very nice on a AR. I am fan Primary arms, and vortex. I have a few ARs and my go to is The red dot style. Like a aimpoint t1.

I prefer prism sights for SD use because even w/o the battery there is still a reticle and with the battery it can be illuminated so you get the best of both worlds, also takes away the astigmatism issue for red dots. I have a couple of the Vortex 1x prisms and Primary Arms has a similar system but likely in the $200 range.

That said PSA has the Sig Romeo new for $120 including shipping on their Daily Deal today, it pops up pretty frequently https://palmettostatearmory.com/sig-sauer-romeo5-1x20mm-red-dot-sight-black-r52001.html

Primary Arms currently has a blem red dot for $58 https://www.primaryarms.com/blem-md-rbgii

Here is the one I used they sell between 35 & 45 on fleebay you just have to watch for them and they are great mounts. But any high weaver style mount should be fine.
