Hi!

I don't remember the position of the forks when I removed them. The trans was in neutral when I did but I have since moved gears around to get the new reverse gear in. I had them in at one point. But I could not shift the middle gears 1/5 and 3/7. And the pto shifter didn't feel like it engaged anything.

Should all notches in gear shifter be aligned to equal neutral (where the spring loaded cylinder pops into if the shifter is not there?

Where do the pto "forks" go in relation to the pieces they bump against in the trans? Both in the middle? Is neutral for the pto when both notches are aligned?

Thanks for any help.

The spring-ball detents are clever mechanisms to prevent the box selecting more than one gear at a time.

I'm not familiar with the L175 box but, in general, all the gaps should line up when it's in neutral - and if any gear is selected, then moving any other fork should be blocked.

Also, R is usually blocked in the highest gear when the Hi-Lo selector is in high range.

I don't think shifting of the pto is interlocked with travel gear selection.

The attached diagram may offer more clues on which shifter goes where.

I'm sure you'll figure it out = take care, Dick B

Actually that did help. I had looked at that diagram before but it was for something else. This time I noticed the pto fork attaches to the little metal in on the fork in the trans. For some reason I thought it just pushed against the nub and couldn't figure out how the pto shifter just flaps in the wind. In short. I was being an idiot. Everything is lined up but the bottom plate not aligned with the holes for some reason. Ah well think I can figure that one out. Definitely a pita the first time. I think the second time I'll do it pretty fast. Thanks for the help!

xmikew, you don't have one of those smart phones with one of those camera gizzmo in it?

When you take pictures of things before they come apart it's a bunch easier to get them back together!:D

Haha! True! Depends how greasy my hands are. Sometimes I think about it but having too much fun ripping things apart. Although getting pitman arm off had me cussing. Old tractor. Seems I spent most of my time trying to get rusted bolts and screws off!

Thanks cat.. I'll have to give that concoction a try.

In good news got the upper and lower covers on and everything lined up!

What worked for me was to put everything neutral. Reverse/1 fork first. Middle two. Then pto last.

After that i put a few shims in between the case and lower trans cover. Slapped on some gasket maker. I pulled the pto levers off on accident but they are the easiest to get aligned but have the least clearance.

Careful not to shift with the upper cover off almost lost a spring in top of the interlock balls. Luckily got got on reverse gear and I fished it out.
