Aftermarket RFID ignition lock.

Hey everyone. New here and was wondering if anyone could relate to an issue I'm currently facing with my small fleet of Kubota equipment. (z-series, skid steer, and light-duty tractor)


Here's what I want to do:

I want to hard wire a passive RFID sensor into the ignition line (an RFID ignition lock) and couple it with the factory keyed ignition. Ideally, the process for starting the mower would require the operator to hold an RFID fob to a hidden sensor which would trigger a relay to complete the ignition circuit, and then the operator would turn the key to start the mower. Has anyone ever heard of this being done on Kubota equipment?

I'll be honest, my electrical skills aren't up to par yet, and figuring this out has been a struggle. If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.


I've been thinking of building something like this on my own.

On Amazon I'm looking at a universal rfid/key fob-activated rig that's a universal addition meant for any 12V system. I've only put a wish list-save on the device for now to digest the details later, but i recall that it's simply installed by splicing it into the live side of the ignition switch. Again from memory, price wasn't too bad either, maybe 20ish bucks. Sorry I'm not long on details but it's easy enough to find on Amazon.

The goal is to confuse/frustrate/slow down to the point of forfeit. The truth is, if somebody wants a piece of equipment, and they were determined to get it, they're going to get it. I just want to add a couple extra barriers on some valuable equipment.

This is just off the top of my head, so it may not work, but if you wired a small switch in parallel with the under seat switch, and turned the switch on when you leave the tractor, someone could start the engine, but if they try to move it it stalls out. If you forgot to turn the switch off you would know what it was, but no one else would. I think that this might be frustrating enough that they wouldn't try to troubleshoot it, they would just move on. Also, it's cheap, and easily reversible if you later want to sell the machine.
