I have a Kubota MX5400HSD and use a 72''. My tractor does not even know it is there when going through tall thick grass. You should have zero problems running one that same size as long as you take your time.
I've had a similar experience on my L4701. Even when cutting some fields that had grown up for several years and were full of 6ft saplings it never bogged the tractor at all. I'd think he'll be fine with a 6ft on his L3301. There are several youtube videos of folks running 6ft rotary cutters on L2501's with no issues as long as they keep their speed reasonable.

I have the 72" mower on my L3560. When we first started mowing, here are some pictures of what I was mowing through.

Obviously, you are not cutting this at 5mph, but more like 2mph and the grapple low feeling for hazards. Yet, the tractor and mower did it just fine.
Aside from potential obstacles, easy peasy mowing.

I pulled a 6' King Kutter for 10 years with my old 33 hp John Deere 970. Did great in heavy grass and weeds. I did not cut trees or much heavy brush. Then I got the pictured Deere branded cutter and it didn't do as well! The gear box started leaking oil immediately.

Go for it. If you are constantly underworking your tractor then your conditions warrant an upgrade.

I have about 1 mile of mowing now on my 6' hog/L3301 combo. No regrets, it handles it fine. Couldn't really tell the difference between it and the 4'er, taller grass will show that probably I'm sure, but it seems well within the tractor's capability for the way I will work it.
