2009 ZD323 ignition switch bad?

I was going to cut grass and i get on the mower turn the key to preheat, and nothing happens.
Just like its dead. So i got to looking and the key switch was showing it was on when its in the off position.
has anyone experienced this. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated! thanks so much guys!

my guess...
any chance the nut that secures the switch to the dash is a bit loose and spun the switch out of it's proper position?
the switch should have a 'tab' that fits' into a 'slot on the dash.

I hadn't thought of that, makes sense, great starting point! thanks i will check that now.
