I am working on my zd28 this week....the charging system is not working. i guess it has never worked since i own it. I have downloaded the WSM for it and seemed to be stumped. i found that my charging regulator has the red wire broke and hanging loose. i removed the regulator and inspected it for any other broken connectors. during this inspection i referred to the WSM for the wiring diagram for the regulator and the harness connection. the reg and the harness each have 2 blue wires(both from the dynamo), Black - ground, red, green and yellow. my current regulator and harness are setup where red goes to red, green goes to green etc.... Here is my question finally....

Does anyone know what the correct scheme is for the regulator wires to the harness should be? in one part of the wsm wiring diagram it shows - Red to green, blue to blue, black to black, yellow to yellow, green to red, and blue to blue. however, in the servicing section it shows a completely different order.

Neither of the two schemactics are a straight color to color connection. are there any mechanics that can help read the wsm and decipher the differences, or any ZD owners that can take a look at the regulator and see what the wiring scheme is?

due to my system not ever working since i have owned it, leaves me to believe that the previous owner maybe pulled some of the wires out of the plug and then just assumed that each color went with its equal color on the harness.

this is wordy and maybe hard to follow...please let me know what i can clear up.

Thanks!!

I think you are making this situation far too complicated.

Relying on Manuals lib WSM wiring diagrams is risky as you do not know which country the WSM's are from. I have downloaded one which turned out to be from Scotland and North American models of this tractor are different.

Dynamo's rarely fail they are so simple.

Regulator/rectifiers do fail. If you have a broken red wire re-connect it and then see what the battery voltage is. The red wire is the charging wire for the battery.

You may find that the broken red wire is your problem.

Once Kubota started providing a NO Charge warning light, the wiring became more involved.

Dave is absolutely correct about the free WSM's

I have downloaded several, and a lot of them were worldwide WSM's that do not fully apply to USA models, for instance. There are differences. But free is free, and people don't want to spend the money on the correct WSM when they think they can get one for free. Well let me tell you about free. For instance if your downloaded WSM shows the wires to go one way and you put them that way, and burn your machine to the ground, was it really a "free" WSM? Or if you can't figure it out and have to pay a dealer $100/hr to figure it out, was it really "free"? There is no "free" lunch....

Get the correct WSM, follow the wiring diagram, and you can have it figured out in 10 minutes if you know how to read a wiring diagram and how to use a DVOM.
