I purchased a L305DT a few years ago. Great little tractor, except, the power steering didn't work. Ok, I can live with that.

Using the tractor recently, I pulled the 3-pt lever back in the by-pass/remote position, and, wow, the power steering started working. awesome!

It works only when in the by-pass position. The P.S. unit gets its oil from a "Priority Flow Valve" (part# 35320-16710) which is under the seat. I suspect this to be the culprit. Before I take it off/apart; I wondered if anyone could confirm this or advise me.

Other Pertinent FACTS:
- 3-PT hitch and hydraulics work fine
- Hyd. oil and filter have been changed
- Hyd. oil level correct, as per dipstick
- Engine speed has no effect
- Oil hot or cold has no effect
- There is no oil pressure in either line going to or from the power steering unit. When in normal operation.

Thank You in advance for any advice or help
.

Yes the issue you are having seams to be pointed directly to the priority valve.

I don't recommend you keep putting the three point into relief, that can cause some real damage.

When you push the three point control that far it closes, and the fluid has to go somewhere, it's choosing the power steering path but if that closes too then it will dead head the pump and cause the seals in the pump or the case to blow out or break.

The priority valve on that model is quite simple, remove it and disassemble it and inspect all of it for any missing parts, stuck parts, or damage.

Just to confirm, no other lines fittings or attachments are on the tractor right?
As I've seen changes made to the hydraulic circuits on other tractors that affect the priority valves operation.

WolfMan,

Thank you very much for your response. The diagram is going to be very helpful. Yes it is tempting to throw the lever back when trying to maneuver in a tight space. But I refrain.

I have hooked in to the "thread Boss Outlet" to run a hydraulically powered buzzsaw, Which works fine. (a little more gpm would be nice, however) Other than that nothing has ever been modified.

Thanks Again

So you're using the three point lever to control the implement?

Yes, I think Kubota intended for this to be used for a hyd. cylinder to raise an implement and then weight and gravity to lower it.

I've been using it for several years to power a hyd. motor that turns a buzz saw. I've ran the saw for hours, with the tractor at a fast idle. a pto drive would be better, but that's not what I had.

its ok, but you cant use the 3-pt at the same time.

BTW The power steering didn't work before either.

Ok.
If you wanted the three point to work while having hydraulic output power, you could get the adapter block for it, but it probably would not increase the flow. ;)

Let us know what you find out with the priority valve when you take it apart.
