So I got around to looking at the tractor this morning. I pulled off the valve cover to see a push rod missing! Took a look down the head and I could see it wedged in there. When I pulled it out it was in 2 pieces. Whatever they hit sent an awfully hard shock through the entire drivetrain...

Thanks for the replies. I haven't looked at this yet, waiting for the weather to warm up as he does not have a heated shop. Will check for fuel and compression when I get there. Will pull the valve cover too and see if anything there is goofy, maybe a bent push rods or something too. Weather...
