Looking for new tractor for 80th

My son is telling his mom that his daddie is getting a new tractor for his 80th birthday (April). Gonna look at a B2301 and LX2601SU. Looks as though they're only about $1,000 apart, and the LX is 55 inches wide, which will fit across my tractor crossing at a tad over 60 inches. Only about...

    Quick hitch prices

HF still has quick hitch. Now about $130. May need to buy a $46 top hook from Amazon if you have a bush hog. Can get the Cat. 1 to Cat. 3 converters (2/pin) and swap them among implements from TSC for somewhere around $3-4 total, better than having to put the $30 converters on each implement...

Synthetic or Conventional motor oil in Kubota diesels

I worked out the numbers for dino oil vs. M1 on our old Benz 240D several years ago, doubling the change miles and 6% fuel mileage improvement. Got a very small credit for M1. Never did actually measure the 6%. Think it may be closer to 3%.

    LX2610?

Unless you're digging in dirt a lot or trying to get stumps out with the FEL, even as low hp as 18.5 is fine. That's what I had in my first tractor. Fine for bush hogging with 4 ft and wood chipping with a MacKissic.

    Quick hitch prices

Got a black HF QH for about $100. Problem with top hook on a bush hog. Can get another top hook for about $50 on Amazon to fix that. Need a couple bushings on each side (and move from implement to implement easily) for about $2 at TSC for bottom pins. Might need a $50 U adaptor for some less...

Treating diesel in zone 8 north central texas

No treatment needed. Never treated our 3 diesel cars in all kinds of weather in 39 years. Do treat the 60 gallon tank underneath the Isuzu generator to avoid algae formation with white bottle PS.

    Potential PTO Shaft Rotation Tool?

Put the selection in front PTO. Should be able to rotate the rear PTO by hand.

    B2601 Coolant temperature gauge reading?

Kubota's extreme recommendations to warm up the engine by letting it idle is utterly stupid. In 39 years of driving diesel cars and now 17 years diesel tractors, I've always started them and took right off, no matter how cold. Just drive gently for maybe 2 or 3 to 5 minutes. Just GO. Will...

    Diesel Anti Gel preference

Doubt you need it in SC. Only time anti gel was needed in 39 years of driving diesel cars and now 17 years diesel tractors was one morning in Vt @ -22 F. Had lower rad hose heater; so the old 220D started fine but died about a mile down the road. Let sit a minute or two. Restarted. Drove...

    2wd vs 4wd; unfrozen ground

As you go skidding down a hill in 2wd, how are you going to put it into 4wd while pooping your pants and hoping the things does not go sideways on you?

Synthetic or Conventional motor oil in Kubota diesels

Been using M1 synthetic in all my engines since M and E combined and could do it with good conscience. Worked for E in lube oil industry for 31 years and was privy to the tests our research people did on other oils. Knew M1 is the best. (Never heard of Amsoil back in those days). Use 0w20 in...

    2wd vs 4wd; unfrozen ground

In 2WD, you have only 2 wheels brakes. That can be a BIG safety issue in working on slopes. In snow/ice, tossup. Use steering brakes to steer in snow/ice.

    B2310, b2601 or L2501

Found a good review on the LX2601SU by a guy who had a B2601. He said the B2601 had butter smooth treadle control. The LX's jerked on. Only redeeming feature was a very nice seat on the LX2601. Think the butter smooth treadle control has sold me on the B2301 for me. Would be the same as the...

    B2310, b2601 or L2501

Why are the LX models so much higher price? Anyone find the owners/operators manual online free? Found one for the B2301/2601 online. Cannot seem to find for the LX2610SU.

    B2310, b2601 or L2501

Wonder when the L02s will post on Kubota USA site. Found. Looks like much more hp than I need.

    "Winter" question

I'd just put the battery on a tender (remove if you don't have power there) and let it sit.

    B2310, b2601 or L2501

I've been looking at these 3. Thinking a B2301 will be fine to replace my 2025R since I was quite happy with the 18.5 hp 4010 (like a 2019E if made). JD no longer puts turning brakes on their lower hp 2 and 3 series tractors. Can have on the Bs and Ls. Only problem with the L2501 HST is the...

    Which oil 10w-30 or 15w-40?

I was about to post this information. 10w30 (or 5w30 or 0w30) fits for all temperatures. xxw40 is only specified for above 77 F. Actually, all oils in our water cooled engines "see" 190 F coolant as set by thermostat. They do not "see" the outside temp. Think those upper temps are for air...
