    Rear wheel spacers on BX231

Thank you. That is exactly my intention: it just felt too "tippy" on my sometimes rather steep slopes. Not that I intend to become any less careful, but it will make me feel a bit more comfortable. The first try-out should take place in late May - early June, and will be duly reported upon here...

    What's cookin' boys?

Last Saturday we had "Corsican" wild boar stew, marinated for 24 hours in strong red wine, Armagnac and Madeira with raisins, cloves, onions, garlic, ginger, olive oil, oregano, bay laurel and pepper...

    Rear wheel spacers on BX231

The BX231 is a model for the European market. AFAIK it is not available in the US, but don't ask me why. Western PA? That's interesting: the tractor lives in southern Belgium (near Bastogne) and I am presently in Africa (Mali)...

    Rear wheel spacers on BX231

Last weekend I installed a set of Bro-tek 2" rear wheel spacers on the BX. Beautifully finished and they fit perfectly (fitting time was 20 minutes total for both sides). I didn't have time to take the machine for a little spin, but it already looks a lot more stable, more confidence-inspiring...

    How good is alternate energy?

Uhhhh, if I may: in Belgium and Holland (and most of Europe, I imagine), solar panels are contractually guaranteed to still have an 80% yield after 25 years. Which of course doesn't make any difference for their disposal issues... Given our lack of space, solar farms are very rare, but house and...

I hadn't even thought about that... :giggle:

Here are few pictures of the house, its surroundings and the wintry village. Very rare for Belgium, there are still two working farms right in the middle of it. To stay on topic, a picture of the BX in its home: the two lower floors of a guard tower dating back to the Spanish occupation in the...

Mirrors are handy indeed, especially to avoid a wryneck or hurting one of my herniated discs when driving back and forth mowing the slopes...

Thank you! You are right about the belly guard, and I'll check when I put the wheel spacers on. Brotek makes the spacers -though not listed on their website- but I doubt very much they'd make a fan guard.

Actually there is one, but in the pictures it's hidden behind the front loader. Moreover, it's Kubota grey so doesn't stand out. I consulted this forum extensively before putting in my order, which certainly saved me lots of errors and aggravation...

Sure is! An expensive option, but more than worth it IMHO. Taking down the skeleton of an old sheep shelter was a work of a few minutes of great fun...

D2Cat, It indeed throws everything in the drum. With a set of flail-extenders (which I also got) it turns into a scarifier - something on this year's to-do list, as twenty years without grazing or mowing have created a thick carpet of moss, dead grass and pine needles, which the flails alone...

And the flail mower with pick-up. The thing is rather heavy (around 750 lbs IIRC), and I not only have a bad back but am also rather smart and lazy  , so I put some heavy-duty casters under a pallet to easily move it around and attach it to the BX - no swearing, no sweat.

70 feet of old fence wire, embedded in 20 years of grass? No problem: weave a tow strap through it, attach to tractor, pull wire out. Move tractor 20 feet down the fence, repeat. Repeat again, done. A job that by hand would have taken half a day was done in 20 minutes.

Thanks! First thing I did when inspecting the place before buying it was to check for any left-behind Tiger tanks in the basement...😜 Actually I am a bit too far to the south, and the Battle of the Bulge never got to the village. Next to the house though there is a little monument for some...

Hello everybody, Having followed this forum for the last three years, I finally decided to register. For my work I live in Africa, but I own a 17th-century farm house in a little (pop. 150) village close to Bastogne in southern Belgium, with about 3 acres, mainly old meadow with a little bit...
