I don't understand the AV or RV as they pertain to ring gap. The top compression ring should have a wider gap as it sees more heat and has greater expansion. The lower compression ring may have a tighter gap as it doesn't get as hot or expand as much. Check out this explanation...

Out of curiosity, was the weight per cubic foot for dried wood or green wood? Is this log dried or fresh? It makes a difference.

I have an "L" series with HST drive but have noticed a similar situation sometimes - not all the time. I may have to shift into neutral to engage PTO, then shift into gear. The "L" series has no mid PTO so it is either engaged or not. I think it probably has to do with having the gears align...

I believe he's saying to remove the end with the nut from the turnbuckle then add a second nut to act as a jam nut against the first. You can also consider purchasing telescoping links but the second nut is a cheaper solution.

The mower initially presents some resistance when engaged but your tractor should have sufficient power to turn it, though it may bog down until mower is up to speed. With PTO disengaged you should be able to turn the PTO shaft by hand. That will give you an idea how much resistance is there...

I checked with the parts manager at my local dealer. He indicated the added air filter isn't needed for my usage. It's more for tractors used all day every day in very dusty conditions. I think I'll get it anyhow. I did order the $75 level indicator, though.

If you have not done so you could try bleeding air from the fuel system.

I found rims that would fit my old Mitsubishi grey market tractor on eBay. They were new rims for something else but the dimensions were right. Just a thought. Of course the shipping was almost as much as the rims but if you need 'em you need 'em.

If you have a tire dealer locally who sells tractor tires that may be a better way to go. Carlisle is a pretty common off road tire brand. A local tire dealer (not Kubota, not a Kubota tractor) set me up with a pair of Carlisles for the front of my other tractor.

I'd start by cleaning the battery terminals and the terminals on the cables.
