This outfit has one at about half the cost of the other popular name...not sure what the cost of your replacement grille was.

I got a dif lock pedal mod from them. It was ok.
The grille was just under $150. No taxes on ag equipment in Alabama, so the quoted price is what we pay. I like that design, but it also makes additional (above the grille) lighting mandatory. The headlights on the LX aren’t very bright to start with. IIRC, they’re just 1191 equivalents. I’m looking into LED replacements now. I think I can probably cobble something together for the grille for a lot less than $180. I think I remember the 511 brand was upwards of $250. I can replace the grille twice for that price and considering the tractor is 7 years old before I finally broke something on it, it’s hard to justify that cost. I have some expanded metal grate and plenty scrap steel around. The cleaning and painting will be the most expensive and time consuming part. I have a soda blaster as well, so maybe not so bad.

Hammers swapped for Y-Blades. What I have learned is:

Hammers are better for woody weeds and trashy cutting in overgrown undergrowth, but not so great with thick pasture grasses or stringy weeds that tend to wrap around the hammers, or worse yet, around the drum. HOWEVER, they do an excellent job on short grass (lawn).

Y-Blades are worthless in viney/woody weeds because they don’t have enough inertia and tend to just bounce off. Too sharp is a thing on mower blades because of the quick wear that occurs on a sharp edge. The blades’ original edge was not very sharp at all, so I tweaked them a bit to maybe do a better job with tougher weeds. They excel in tall thick grass and stringy weeds, but leave a lot to be desired for cutting lawn type grass because the shape of the cut leaves very visible ridges under each knife path. No real surprise there, though.

I have seen some brands with L blades which should leave a much better finish on a lawn, and maybe work okay in light weeds too.

I’m still exploring mowing options for when my 15 year old Husqvarna rider bites the dust. SUzie can’t do a belly mower (no midmount PTO) so unless I get a rear finish mower, I’ll likely just get another rider or Zturn.

I hear ya on the headlights. I replaced mine with LED's after the first month of ownership (very reasonably priced). Looking at my service notes, I found that this is what I used...not sure if it helps you at all:

Headlights:

Life 1073 12V 23W 60 deg C = (1156, BA15S)

Replaced with JDM ASTAR - 3030-1156-14W-1-M, ASIN: BO19J471B1 Ordered Dec 30 2017

I did some maintenance today, I changed the oil and filter on the L3901DT. I also greased the tractor and FEL.

Has anyone else thought they had the oil they needed, only to find after draining the oil and changing the filter you don't have the oil. So off to town that is 15 miles away to get oil.

Moving more firewood to the "needs to be cut and split" pile today, still working on the one big pile is better than two little piles theory.

I think I'm seeing a grapple in my future for jobs like this.

The firewood had to be moved so we could get to the rocks. Lucky my tractor isn't any bigger.

How does anyone get stuff done without one of these, even an old small one ?

I'm interested in the L shaped flails you mentioned. That's what I was looking for originally but could only find really heavy duty versions - 8" long, 3/8" thick - so I've gone with Y blades. Do you have a link to where you saw the L blades you could share ?

This afternoon, I mowed off a pasture of about 2 months old narley weeds. Probably half the time, I mowed in 3rd gear. The other half 2nd and a while in first. Mostly the mower was the limiting factor as far as speed, but I almost killed the tractor once in 2nd gear.

IMO that is better situation than forgetting to put a pan under before removing the plug.

I mowed the out of control yard today (twice)…got 95% of raked and hauled to compost station and heavy storm caught me…little girl and I both got a free shower. Worst part is we were draining honey and i did not think to tarp it so it got caught in rain too - it’s a bit thin. We’ll have to evaporate it.

Mowed 5 acres with theFDR2584. I immediately noticed a better cut and even discharge with the new blades.

Wife wanted to do some cleaning on the front of the house. Not quite sure why or what all she was doing. All I was tasked with was getting her where she wanted to go, so I didn’t care much. Pretty likely she explained and all I heard was “go get the tractor and take me where I tell you”.

Swapped the grapple for the forks and personnel basket. Window frames, doors, and gutters are cleaner and UV fading near completely corrected. No clue what she was using. IMG_0488.jpeg IMG_0489.jpeg

I spent another long day in the tractor seat today to move some more rocks, a few loads of soil and some old concrete.

PXL_20260823_052555290.MP~2.jpg

Had a play with the ripper I made a while ago to remove some tree roots and the remains of a stump from a dead plum tree. I'd call it a success. It was bothering me as the soil was sinking around it leaving the hard pointy end of the stump poking through ready to catch an unsuspecting tyre sidewall. Lucky the ground was soft.

PXL_20260823_043529544.MP~2.jpg

I tried the ripper on another tree root that came from a big old red gum. This time the tree root won. On the plus side, none of my welds broke on the ripper or the quick hitch.

Well it depends….this year out of our three hives, only one is strong enough to produce for us…out of that hive so far this year we have harvested a combined total of approx 5 gallons of honey. (This year we really haven’t had a dearth since lots of rain and flowers never dried out/closed up…I do believe we are about done now as fall is coming soon)

we have not had a year yet where more than one hive produced. So far when a hive produces for us we have gotten approx 2.5 - 3 gallons.

Two or three times now I have shown my wife your posts and asked her how come she does't ask me to help her clean gutters and windows, etc. She just looks at me and says that she doesn't understand the question. You are a lucky man !!
