Hello everyone,

I have a Kubota B1400DT 4WD, gear transmission, and I am trying to diagnose two oil leaks from the transmission.

I understand that the B1400 is a grey-market model and that the B7200DT is probably the closest US equivalent, so I hope someone familiar with the B7200/B6200 transmission can help me.

I have identified the following parts in the parts diagram:

1. PTO seal

I have an oil leak around the PTO shaft. I believe the oil seal is accessible from the outside, but I would like to confirm whether the seal can be replaced without removing the PTO shaft or dismantling the transmission.

2. Front 4WD drive shaft / input shaft seal

This is the more interesting problem.

The shaft I am referring to is the Kubota 67211-12120 input shaft. The oil seal associated with this assembly appears to be 67211-12130. (Part 3 downside)

I have attached photos of my tractor and the parts diagram.

In the actual tractor, the seal I can see through the inspection opening appears to be badly tilted / partially pushed out of its housing. One side is seated much deeper than the other side.

I have not removed anything yet.

My questions are:

1. Is this seal supposed to be installed from the outside, as shown in the parts diagram?

2. Can the 67211-12130 seal be removed and replaced with the 67211-12120 shaft still installed?

3. Since my seal appears to have moved out of position, would it be reasonable to carefully push/tap it back into its correct position before replacing it?

4. Could a loose bearing behind the seal cause the seal to move out of position?

I am planning to put the tractor over a pit, clean the area thoroughly and check the shaft for radial play before doing anything.

I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has actually worked on this transmission or on a B7200/B6200 4WD.

I would especially like to know whether I can replace or reseat this seal without splitting the tractor or removing the transmission.

Thank you.

Yes all of the seals in question are replaceable from the outside.
No major disassembly required.
While reinstalling the seal might work, if it's been run like that for a length of time, it's very likely to leak more when installed all the way.

Thank you very much for the information. That is really helpful and confirms what I was hoping for.

I have one more question: what is the correct procedure for removing the front propeller shaft / drive shaft on the B1400DT?
Do I need to remove any pins or clips, or is there a specific way to slide the shaft out?

I want to remove the shaft to get better access to the #3 seal and also check the input shaft for any play before replacing the seal.

Thanks again for your help!

If you push the seal back into the housing crooked, it will be looser than it was before and it has slipped out.

This part is going to not set well with you.
In order to get the main propeller shaft out, you will need to split the tractor at the flywheel.
