Hi, I have a Kubota SCL 1000. The RPMs keep going from 0 all the way past 2800 when idling. RPMs jumping all over the place and it will suddenly die when operating or when idling, it just randomly does it. RPMs always bouncing around when idling or raced up. Suddenly dies sometimes, sometimes it runs okay. I'm trying to troubleshoot it. The engine seems to be running fine, but the RPMs bounce around anyway.

Get the WSM for it, as it will have a ton of information on all of the systems.
Really sounds like you have a wiring issue where it's very possibly losing ground.

Is the engine speed actually changing or is it just the tachometer changing? I believe you to mean the engine RPM is actually changing but want to be sure what you are saying.

Then that sounds like a problem with just the tachometer or the tachometer drive.
The drive on older equipment was a cable but I think your equipment is probably all electronic. If it is a cable then it may be broken. But the electrical device is more difficult to diagnose. Look for a loose wire or connection on the back of the actual tachometer or gauge cluster. But it could be something in the control computer that sends out the RPM signal.
You can probably get a Work Shop Manual (WSM) that should give you the wiring diagram and some troubleshooting instructions.
One other thought is to inspect the alternator for loose wires or slipping belt since that may be where they are picking up the RPM signal.
