Got a BX2380 with the front-mount snowblower, and a real long uneven gravel driveway. Looking at SBS Armor skid shoes to get my scraper blade higher off the ground than the factory ones. Having 1 or 2 " of snow left on the ground is no problem. Anyone know which of the SBS skid shoes might work on the 2816? Also, trying to avoid for one more season putting on a schedule 40 black pipe on the scraper blade, and am thinking the newer skid shoes might help me avoid that. Thoughts from the real worls? Just measure the spacing on the bolts on your blower.
The set you put up shows 1" and 3" spacing
They have other sets based on spacing of the mounting bolts.
Having the blower set that high should not affect the operation adversely.

Well y'all, came across a vid where the dude makes his own skid shoes out of oak or other hardwood, 5 1/2 " tall, about 1 foot long, and they lasted 8 years. It keeps the scraper blade about 1" full inch off of the ground for gravel driveways, and simple as heck to make. Gonna' try that first. Bet it works. Best....D
As a hobby woodworker I'd be interested in seeing pictures of your build as it progresses as well as the final product. We love pictures!!!
I'll do ya' one better: here's the original vid. While it isn't on a tractor snowblower, I bet the principle still works. I'll be using a piece of hickory, with a Janka past 1600 if memory serves--that's pretty hard. Here's the vid->
Or you could go down this route. The caster wheels are adjustable to set the snowblower height from 0 to about 6 inches. Works well on a gravel driveway that hasn't got a coat of frozen snow on it yet.
Pretty simple fab. Not sure they would hold up to the weight and stress of a front-mount through. Maybe if you made 'em real beefy.
I was thinkin' that too. As hard as hickory is, maybe. So, I might splurge and get the Armor Skids--they're not too expensive, do the same thing, and bolt right on. Thx for the ideas!
The wood could work for a little bit but won't chance one breaking in the middle of snow plowing. Will be ordering the armor skids. As for the wheels on back, I have a set on my rake. Don't think could handle the weight for long periods.

I just use the factory skids on my BX5455HD blower…set them all the way down and blow my gravel driveway easily. I sometimes take mine off “float” for challenging areas and have had no trouble for 6 yrs. On a side note, my original skids wore down unevenly so I grabbed a new set for this coming winter!
Gotcha'. Mine just can't get low enough. I believe their max heighth is 3/4", and I"m lookin' for for 1 or 1 1/4. Out in the woods, driveway isn't the flattest in the county either. However, I noticed in the manual for the 2816 "IMPORTANT" and it states pretty strongly not to use the blower in anything but float or "severe damage" could be done to a bunch o' stuff. I too raise mine here and there, which they say is ok, but not for long. Anyways, the dang thing needs more height for the driveway a a few grassy areas. Thanks!
I don’t have the K connect system on mine it’s the quick hitch that hangs on the front of the tractor then that coupled with the blower. It’s an older Bx25D
Hey Lickytongue welcome to the forum.
I'm not sure what tractor you're using that unit on but it requires more GPM flow than a BX can supply, at 1,000 lbs. might be too heavy for a BX, and $5,000 being inexpensive is relative to each individuals particular circumstances. EDIT: And would require a 3rd function to be installed if not already.
Besides the original poster already has a snow blower, just needs new skids.
