The rear wheels of my BX2200 have started to pop out of gear in forward high while going up a slope. If I stop, put it in neutral and then back in gear and accelerate slowly it will work again but if I accelerate too much it will once again pop out of gear. It does not do this in reverse, and the front wheels work fine in 4wd. I have checked the hydro fluid and it at normal level. Any ideas? The tractor has about 650 hours.

You might check the linkage for wear and to make sure it's fully engaging in high range.

Every automotive trans I have seen do this, it always ends up being the syncros or the “dog teeth” (internal problems)

Never taken a tractor trans apart, but I would expect similar problems……..

Don’t worry though……actual ‘tractor experts” will be along shortly………. (y)

Hopefully it is just slop in the linkage as opposed to a trans rebuild. The tractor has been flawless all these years and is my right arm for so many things.

Anyone have a ballpark number for a trans rebuild?
The price would be a huge variable.
Ballpark minimum $1k

There is not a lot to the range section of the transmission:

Look at this linkage.
When it's in high range does the lever hit the back of the slot?

I finally took the tractor to our local Kubota dealer but they could not replicate the problem. Once back home, however, I had the same issues.
1. Only happens in forward, mostly in high speed. Does not happen in reverse.
2. The issue is intermittent.
3. More prevalent at higher speeds and on a slope tilted to the right. Also, when the engine is warmed up.
4. When it occurs, the tractor stops moving and I feel a vibration. Once I return to neutral and reengage slowly it will start working again.
5. All hydraulics work as they should.
6. Just changed the hydro fluid with new filter and cleaned strainer. Some metal chips in stainer but not many. Refilled with Super UDT2 but this did not solve the problem.

Any ideas?

The mystery continues. When I took the tractor to the dealer who could not replicate the problem I had taken off the FEL. Once I got it back I installed the FEL and had the same problem. I just took off the FEL and the problem went away.

What would cause the tractor rear wheels to come out of gear while going uphill with the FEL on?

Go out and check the PSI in the rear tires, I'm betting they are low and your spinning the rims in the tires.
It happens more than you would ever think possible.
