Be practical. Top off all your fluids, run the tractor for a few hours/days. Take the plug out, measure how much fluid comes out.

Thimble full or less - put the plug back in and have a nice day. Check once a month to see if it's nothing, the same, or gets worse.

Cup full - put the plug back in, top off all your fluids, recheck after a few hours/days of use. Another cup full you have a problem.

More than a cup full - time for disassembly.

Almost five years in with my MX6000HSTC and I've yet to have (see) even a drop of fluid come out of the split pin. The same is true for the MX6000HST that I had for 15 months.

I only recall hearing of that problem on the L series. My BIL's L4740HSTC had the issue and it was a $4K-ish job to fix it. The dealer apparently saw a number of them and told my BIL that they put a slight knurling on a shaft or something like that. He wasn't in much of a mood to discuss it when it happened. I'll have to see if he knows more.

I doubt one would get much fluid by removing the plug, as the said plug has a drip pin hole in it.
