55 and sunny in Feb? Took the opportunity to split the red oak I dropped back in the fall. B3200 FEL makes light work of getting the rounds up to the splitter

I really wasn't wanting to put the QH15 back on the M6060 but the QH20 is a few weeks out, and I need to get the tractor set up now before hand surgery on Tuesday. I got the top-n-tilt on and did my best to make sense of the ridiculous hoses but need to buy some longer ones. I'll replace at least three hoses after my hands heal up.

I got the QH15 on, picked up the EA box blade and moved the Buhler/Farm King rear blade from the field up to it's regular resting place. Nothing sketchy about using shackles and chains to pick up 1,100 lb of steel! The bigger bucket doesn't have hooks but I will order some from @Kennyd4110 and weld them on. But with the EA box blade on I can work on the second driveway over the coming weeks, even with limited use of my hands. I'll figure out the rear blade and QH20 interface at a later date since I'm sure I'll need to do some work there.

Cleaned up some snow and used the bucket for the first time in months. Stopped at the dealership to get pricing on a third set of remotes and a hydraulic top link for the L5460.

Was lazy and decided to clean 2" of wet snow with the bucket. I had swapped the snowblower for the forestry winch a few days back and did not swap back. Major mistake. Wasted lots of time and got stuck twice (and had to use the winch to get out).

I hope I learned my lesson that getting the snowblower for any amount of snow is the right thing to do...

The local Kubota dealership moved late last year from 3 miles from my house to much closer to the center of town. I stopped by the new location for the first time this morning to pick up some UDT2 and to check on the ETA for the new QH20. I was given a Kubota hat for showing up. 😂

I was surprised as to how much inventory they have including an M4 and M5 and a bunch of excavators. There's a KX057-4 coming in on trade that has ~1,400 hours on it so of course I had to look at the KX057-05 on the lot (there were at least three). All I can say is 😲😲😲 ... what a beast of a machine, and the engine compartment is a work of art. The mini is much larger than I remembered.

As for the KX057-4 vs. KX057-5, well, at less than half the cost of a new machine, the used one sure is tempting. The dealership is going to get back to me next week once the trade in has been finalized. I'm really not ready to buy something but if the deal is right I might just have to sell a kidney or two.

I'm actively looking for a used 5 ton excavator myself. There's been one staring at me at the dealer for the last 4 months or so... It only has 123 hrs, so quite expensive.

Installed a new battery and brought the evaporator up the road and set it a little closer to the wood pile. I suspect I am going to strike a match first thing in the morning. (Approx 60 gallons filtered today which is enough to make a mess)

Thanks. Two thumbs and a middle finger this time around. (y)(y)🖕

😂
Trigger finger or more?
I have had several of those trigger finger ones and it takes a while for them to get working near normal again but a good thing. I also had a knuckle put in my rt index 2 years ago works good and the end of pain.
Coming to the point of needing the left index done too.
Last year this time I had the left thumb done where they take out the trapezium bone and replace that with some tendon harvested from the forearm. That has been good too.
Mine is osteoarthritis.
Just trying to be encouraging if it is any of those.
Best of luck,

Bill

Yes and thanks! My dad suffered from the same condition (stenosing tenosynovitis) many years ago so there must be a genetic predisposition, and like him I have used/abused my hands over decades of hard, physical work involving gripping of various tools. So it's a combination of a genetic trait and environment. This surgery will leave me with six upgraded digits out of ten and hopefully this will be it for a while at least.

I had surgery for trigger finger years ago. Down time was minimal, doc said only thing to stay away from for a couple of weeks was using post hole diggers. Gladly, no problems since.

Staying away from post hole diggers is ALWAYS good advice!

It was a post pounder and a bunch of t-posts that did my hands in for the first time. One day my hands were fine, then after a weekend of pounding posts both of my ring fingers were messed up. They've been fine ever since surgery 8 or so years ago. It was a weekend a few months ago using an angle grinder that did my thumbs in, but no doubt they'll be good to go in a few months.

Surgery this afternoon and a bill of $6,500 if my insurance won't cover it ... still waiting on them to respond, but I'm not worried.

Did the 1000 hr service on the B2650. Drama free.

Plugged the differential breather tube and only lost an ounce or two of hydraulic oil when changing the HST filter.

put one side up today. and getting materuals to build a plywood backer wall to protect the barn wall then move the rack into final place and anchor it.

1000005472.jpg

beam on the far end is just temporary so we could get an idea of how it will all go together. the other 20 feet of racking will come out in a "L" and leave enough room for the backhoe on its dolly to sit on the hay side of the barn in the corner out of the way. all the implements on the floor will be on dollys. the snow blower and seeder will on the floor under that rack

Set a couple old cedar fence posts at the ends of a row of stones set out to define the field edge at the corner nearest our private road. The bucket on the L filled in for the wheelbarrow I don’t have. Not sure what blocked out trauma may be at the root of my hatred for wheelbarrows, but I’ve despised them for the better part of 59 years. Bucket works better anyway. Digging with post hole diggers in damp red clay requires having a decent size rock or something similar to slam the post hole diggers on to knock the clay out. The bucket works well for that as well as a temporary repository for the spoils.

Later, hooked up the chipper and did some chipping in the edge of the woods just outside our yard. It was in an area where a little bit of stuff fell a while back. Not worth cleaning up being it's in the woods anyway. Then a little more, then some more. Couple days ago, looked at it and thought it looked like 💩 even though it’s probably looked exactly the same for at least 6 months.

Main reason I like chipping in place when practical instead of moving to one of the brush piles to chip later is if chipping in place, there’s no need to cut things to limit length to the ~8’ I can get down the trails in the grapple. Stuff like this 25’ skinny dead tree, just get it started, walk away to get the next thing, and the chipper makes it disappear.
