Snow blower, we dont got no snow blower,,, we dont need no stinkin snow blower.. Well Im thinking I do!
I am still contemplating about plowing 15 inches of snow. An thinking just how dumb I am for not spending the money on something that I would never or seldom use,,, except for today! Yeah I know today is not a day to looking for a blower, but perhaps time to start gathering information. A bucket and blade for over 60 years was good enough, I am however getting a little long in the tooth for them. It dont have to be an orange one any color will work, but I dont know where to start looking, the stealer is for the most part, I wont say not helpful. They seem to be interested in one thing, the sale. The old folks that owned the dealer ship are gone, and like HD have gone the boutique route, and ,,, well thats another rant for another time. So what am I looking for, as I know nothing about them other than what I have read in here. Any brand any color that will work on the BX or the B, and everything I need to hook it up. So over load me on information boyz

3PH or front mount? Front is easier on the neck but 2 or 3 times as much and a PITA to put on/take off.

3PH is a pain in the neck but cheaper, easier to mount/dismount. I have a 64" Pronovost Puma on my B2650 and just finished blowing out the driveway and barn area. Got it used at a steal and have been using it for 10 or 15 years with no repairs other than the odd shear pin.

Probably your most expedient tool, the one closest at hand, is to wave a couple of C-notes around in front of your neighbor who has the equipment.

That's what I did the first couple of years. Worked great and it liberated me from the likes of yesterday's ordeal. That was facing an icy gale, my gloves frozen to the steering wheel. Had to go in the house at one point to get a bucket of hot water to thaw out the FEL controls.

I got the first 8 inches bladed off by noon yesterday. Gotta go out and finish up about now.

Pics at 11.

Wonder if he has a Poly cutting edge on that so he doesn't scrape the pavement! 🤣

Paul hits the nail.
Last time I priced these up for my little BX1880 there was a $2k - $3k premium for the front mount verses the rear mount. And a lot more pieces to put together. I have a straight 125' driveway and would go for the rear mount. If I had a really long driveway I'd likely go for front mount.

Do you suppose he removed the heavy duty packaging staples so as not to scratch the driveway?

Since we are middle of snow season, find a local guy who moves snow and pay for high snow amounts for this year.

Look for snow equipment after the season.

OH yeah this is not the time to buy for sure! No a 3 point while cheaper is not a good choice for me, like I said old and crippled. I know the big K doesnt make the only front blowers that will work on the B or the BX. I have seen the hydro blowers but hooo boy $$$$$. And I dont think either of mine have the PTO hp to run one as it should be run. Now I have the whole blade set up for the BX undercarriage and blade, and I think other than the drive shaft and the blower I wouldnt have to get another undercarriage ,I think, maybe I dont know. And this is why I am asking the experts.
And being out here on the ridge, trying to find someone to plow, while not impossible, would be a little tough. Though Im sure all the truck plows I have seen laying around behind barns and in the fields have been pulled out and maybe put back in service , though I havent seen one truck or jeep yet today.

Skeets - - pains me that you're struggling and I can't help.

For your area, get a 3 point hitch blower and put it behind your B2601.

Front-mounts are too expensive, and can be a PITA to put on....

If you get in another jam, I'm willing to bet someone you know will drive to your place to blow you out.....

I'm too far away to help, but bet you got some local buds...

@skeets

good day and Happy snowmaggedon! I hope you are yours are warm and safe.

I am not sure the criteria for ‘long in the tooth’…but my reference base is that I am still fairly self sufficient, but I do require supervision and instruction from my SO for most tasks whether I realize it or not. 😉

If you enjoy being out in the cold and want self sufficiency, I say get what you want, and enjoy it what you can while you can. It’s not going to end well if you become to sedentary.

Hell, you have multiple machines you could dedicate one machine for snow removal come fall, just have your stealer do it for you if having trouble with your hands…sure that’s not free to have them attach/detach/service, but if you want to be out and getting after it, who cares, pay the piper. Might keep you in the game a bit longer. Don’t let alligator arms keep you on the bench. (If you were my neighbor I would do it for you)

if you have deep pockets and don’t like the cold, become a snowbird.

anyway I hope you are having a Happy Snowmaggedon! 🥃

My neighbor with all the equipment lives <0.5 mile from me, on another branch of our shared lane.

He has a newish Kubota track loader, which he used to unload my new 100gal LP tank, against the foundation, up the steepest slope on the building lot, a couple of years ago. Gave him $100 for that.

He also has a nice new little Kubota backhoe. I mentioned that I would like to retrieve some rocks out of the creek bed with it to buttress our culvert, and he wanted me to take it right then and there. I'm a little nervous about running a small machine like that to its limit, especially with zero prior experience.

Slopes, mud, trees are all obstacles to deal with....

Did I ever mention that I rolled a Ford Jubilee on top of myself when I was 12?

If you've got SSQA, consider a gas powered SSQA snowblower.yes ,you'll pay $$$ for one,say from BERCO but if you're a frugal bodger like me you can make one for less than $500, Most of that is 14HP 'offshore' engine. BTDT... used once then no snow for 5 years.....
I now use a 22HP rider with a 44" berco blower...7 neighbours loved me today, got RID of 2' of white.

Well now that is a good question, the BX is a 2360 used and abused, my go to beast and I guess it might be the one Im looking to. I think it is more nimble than the B and in tight places better. But the B has a higher PTO rating but does not feel as nimble as the BX.
I think the sub frame on the BX is like a BX 27 something maybe 2751? I do know they said when I bought it it could be used for a blower, but I dont know they said a lot of things that were not right.

Both the BX and B series have mid mount ptos.

Where do you live? Have I got a deal for you! A like-new BX2816 with all the mounting brackets that bolt to the frame of the tractor to hold the quick hitch onto the tractor (less bolts, they got lost along the way), hitch, and driveshaft. Everything you need for $4200. Price it out at your local dealer and then get in touch with me.

How much “area” are we talking about here? (i.e 20’x40’ drive way, or 4 miles X 20” )

I mean, my driveway at home is MUCH smaller than my cottage, so to me, that will help decide what to buy.

Me personally, I decided to get a plow for my truck.

LOVE IT.

Spam, I own a BX2370, which is the same as a BX2360, and from the pictures you posted, I don,t think your blower assembly will work on a BX2360. It looks nothing like my assembly. My front blower is a BX2750D. ANd then you need the proper quik hitch assembly and driveshaft to hook it up to the mid pto.

Skeets, the front plow suggestion for your truck is a great one. Just imagine having the comfort of a heater and protection from blowing snow and the wind. If you want to go the tractor route, I bought a soft cab assembly for my Bx2370 and it does give you the greenhouse effect if the sun is out, and I don,t have to worry about the blowing snow. If I had a big area to keep clean, I would look at a truck plow for sure. At our age, I think of comfort more than hoarding money, LOL

N.Y,
I used my BX with a rear blower for years and it would handle anything. Trouble is I got old and no longer can handle the below zero winds along with the powder you get covered with. Yesterday I cleaned up 14 inches sitting in a 80 degree cab with a plow. I now love cleaning up snow again. Getting old changed how much cold I can tolerate.
