I slid to a stop, and felt I was in a safe(enough) spot to step off. But maybe I should have stayed on the machine šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
I was thinking first priority was to get it off the road so that it was not blocking it in case some one else came along and could not stop.

While heading to the neighbor’s place to plow them out (a vacation place, they live in the city) I spun out on the town road. I didn’t see it coming and boy did it frighten me. I was in midrange, 2500 rpms, two-wheel drive. Just driving down the fairly steep hill, I think it’s 10% grade or so, and i happened quickly. There are fairly deep ditches on either side, and a lot more hill. I’m so glad I didn’t flip it.

Glad you and your equipment are unharmed. Uncontrolled drifting on an open station is a sure way to get a good shot of adrenaline. Nothing like near death to make you feel alive. BTDT, don’t care to repeat.

Kind of hesitate to say this as I don’t want it to come off as criticism. I know you weren’t expecting any potential problems and that probably played into it. When the wheels have lost control, drop the implements; in this case, the rear blade. If you have to fix the road after, that’s a small price. Default ā€œpanicā€ on a car/truck is usually hard braking. On a tractor with ground engaging implements, it’s drop the implements.

Replaced the twelve zirk fittings (grease nipples) on my KBF200 FEL today. No dramas. One blocked but cleaned out ok. These were all 11mm straight.
I will need to list all the others on the tractor and will need to order those in as some are right angled etc.
The plan is to change them all for new ones so I know all about them.

It does not look like a highly traveled street, no other tire tracks.

Ohhh I see. It’s a dead end road, and my house is at the end, the only one uphill from that spot. So someone would have to be coming from down the hill and would see me. But there’s seriously often zero vehicles that come up over the course of an entire day. Most days is like the plow one time, and maybe a package delivery.

But yes blocking a public road isn’t a great idea I totally see that.

Yeah… the rest of the way down the hill I was in 4wd and low range and took it very easy.

I’ve lived here ten years and believed I knew the road conditions and machine fairly well. But, it seems so was over confident. It can sneak up on you if you let your guard down!
Have your hand ready to drop the rear blade. I think this may help in a situation like this.

I shared my screw up so I, and others, can learn. So thanks, that’s fair and constructive criticism. I thought of dropping in the moment, but hesitated in the low key panic šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

I’ve been in other situations where I dropped the loader or blade, but for whatever reason I was caught so off guard with this one I hesitated and it was over in a flash.

And yes, drifting the tractor was WAY scarier than driving in my pickup (that has snow tires and sandbags), which is a bit scarier than drifting in my wife’s four wheel drive manual trans VW with snow tires (actually kinda fun).

Oh yeah, after I regrouped (and took a photo šŸ˜‚) the rest of the way down the hill I had my hand on the 3pt drop lever.
I know hindsight... Important thing is that nobody got hurt.

First thing I did with my tractor was pretty much crashing it into a tree. Embarassing details you find in another thread.

anyone else getting tired of this winter? Wasn't expecting this one so, it made me extra unhappy.

Wound up spending 5 hours doing my two driveways, deck, walkways, a neighbor place and the horse farm. I need to get some more hay for horses so I had to plow that out shyt well.

I don't ski anymore. I hate winter.

Great looking place you have there!
I found the best thing to improve my attitude about snow is a cab on the tractor. Now I don't mind moving it, and i almost find I am looking forward to getting some more fluffy stuff.

spent another 4 hours yesterday on another PITA snow.

Got done and somebody wanted to play.

Then we got another light snow in the evening so I guess I'll be heading out to do that today as well.
My son has a about 1-3/4 yo GSP, named Swede, that loves those discs too!
He brings him by once a week to have a snow romp with my 2 rescue mixed breeds and they have a ton of fun running, chasing, wrestling in the snow. Summer time it is around my little pond it is Swede and Layla in and out of the water and running. Rudy doesn't swim but acts like he is some kind of mall cop when those two get to wrestling, starts barking to assert his authority, then demanding biscuits from my son.
Dogs can bring a smile to your face even when you are busy!

Near blizzard conditions today pretty much a whiteout combined with 6+ inches of snow. On my lunch break I decided to give the driveway a go and now that I’ve been able to use it on more than just a couple inches, I gotta say, it is 1000x better than the rear blade I had. I’m not getting pushed around anymore and the snow isn’t piling on the sides making the driveway more narrow.

My only complaint is that I need a better coat setup and some snow pants preferably insulated. I also need to figure out how to seal the ski goggles I use better when I have the gato/mask on. My breath just condesnes on the lens. That wind switches direction and suddenly I can’t see 1ft in front of me LOL.

I had something like that happen to me several years ago when in Calif. with my L3010 gst, I was in 4wd doing a driveway and when trying to go back up a hill and got half way up could not go any farther when started to slide backward down hill, nothing I could do to stop it or get it under control except drop loader bucket to try to keep it going straight! ( THAT DID NOT WORK!!)
Do not think anything will work when it happens!
Glad it stoped for you as mine slid sideways for about 100 ft before it slid into freash unplowed snow!

Wowza. Were you and the machine okay? Did it stay rubber side down? While sliding I did think about sliding in to the ditch and flopping on my side 😬

My wife and I used the L3901DT to move some firewood into the shed where the boiler is. Move 6 bucket loads.

Of course I had the grapple on the tractor, so I had to disconnect it and put the bucket on. Then when I was done, had to put the grapple back on.

I'm guessing 4WD may have helped. Letting off the go pedal or having the tractor want to go faster than the engine would allow it while in 2WD was like jamming on the brakes and breaking traction with the rears. In 4WD the fronts would have helped somewhat.

Looked at my BX and plugged in the block heater. Another ~6" of very cold snow needs to be blown into the woods. But, it's the coldest day of winter so far. -20C/-4F at sunrise. At least it is sunny and only a mild breeze. Walked down to the mailbox and cleared it out for the USPS person. Didn't feel like sub 0 in the sun. Forecast is for +5F by noon. Tractor should be warmed up by then.

Got to go remove drifts yesterday at the neighbors driveway. Felt good to get on the BX. Not much action lately with just cold temps. Hopefully, when this polar vortex moves on, we get more snow.
