Anybody tried this rig? It’s a mechanical grapple and I’m getting conflicting opinions whether it will work with the Kubota loader arms.
It’s a universal skid steer connect but I’m more curious about the lower jaw being able to push against the lower arm.

There has been several variations of this style of grapple.
Don't do it!
There is a ton of things and situations that they either can't do or do poorly.
Invest in the third function and get a good grapple.

What’s the right grapple for the LA1065?
What else uses 3rd function hydraulics?

There is quite a few different models of grapples you can get and will work.
The two basic types are root grapples, and brush grapples.
What are you going to do with the grapple mainly?

As far as the third function, there is quite a few things that it can work for.
Grapple, Post hole digger, Post hole driver, cement mixer, fencing tools, snow equipment, blades and a whole list of other hydraulic powered / controlled implements.

A mechanical grapple is limited as to what angle you can grab things from, and if you use the grapple only for tasks you're currently thinking of and as you imagine it working then a mechanical grapple might be fine.

Right out of the box I used my third-function root-rake grapple meant for logs to instead move chunks of split boulder and dig rocks out of a hill when the excavator guy got hard on the sauce. Stuff needed to get done and the grapple did it, thankfully. It was a precision picking job, and if I had a mechanical grapple it would have been much, much harder.

So you might want the extra ability of a 3rd-function grapple for doing things you haven't thought of doing (yet).
