I've been Googling, searching and cannot find the name of an older .22 lever action. I think it may have been a Marlin. It was a takedown model that came with a small padded case that only fit when the rifle was disassembled.

I do not think it was your imagination !Maybe my memory is defective, but i think it was something by Marlin, lever action, factory soft case with model designation embroidered on it.
I spent so much time unsuccessfully searching this morning it's starting to look like it was only my imagination.
BINGO!! Thank you!

Yep. Levers are the favorite with me as well:Lever actions always appealed to me. My preference is a straight stock. The biggest caliber I have is a .444 and the oddball is a Winchester 9410 (well then mare's leg is kinda different). Once in a while there may be glass on one but aperture is the favorite.
