You are right - the hinge generally breaks when the notch closes so wider angled notches like you prefer to make will hold longer. One consideration to think about - if you are cutting in the thick and your tree may come in contact with other standing trees you may want your tree to be able to roll or slide. In that case, having the hinge break once it is headed in the right direction is a helpful thing because it can roll or slide back. But the butt is loose so you have to be out of the way.

On making the bore cut and kick back - start the bore cut so that the bottom corner of the bar makes contact with the wood first. So you are going in at an angle rather than straight back. After you have started to cut in slowly rotate your saw around as you cut deeper until your are cutting straight back the way you want. Starting with the tip or top corner of the saw will kick back. You should practice this. A bore cut is very useful. It is one of the best ways to cut a leaner and is the recommended method used by the famous "Game of Logging" schools as the basic cut to use in general.

Ah hah, hopefully this makes my question more clear. How to you prevent kickback on this cut, as it seems you’re using the top tip of the bar.

Good for you on the GOL !! Now I under stand you question. The tree is roundish. I position the bar at the back of the tree and on that that side in the pic the top of the bar against the tree. To start the cut I angle the saw so that I am using the straight part of the bar then rotate so it is parallel to the hinge as the cut progresses After you cut in a way the tip of the bar does get buried but the top leads the way. It is no different then cutting a 24" log from the bottom with the top of your bar using a 16" saw. Again, when you start the cut use the straight part of the bar on initial contact. Hope that helps -Try it

Give bad boy a look. Very nice mowers with heavy duty decks and transmissions. Much better pricing than Kubota. Nice color too. ;)
Give Ferris a look. Their suspension is like day and night compared to any other mower. It has shocks on all 4 corners and a suspension seat too. I was going to buy a Kubota. I'm so glad I stayed with the Ferris.

Had the RTV out yesterday and it quit a couple of times. It started right up but I assume with the cold weather the fuel filter my have some crap in it. It's in the garage warming up and I'll replace the filter.

Fell a couple dead standing trees. None of them were very big. Only got a picture of the last one. Got 4 60" logs out of it. I could have done without the leaves, but sometimes you just can't help it.

Just got back from a 1,300 mile trip last night and was out moving snow this morning. I had to fuel up the MX first using the JohnDow tank. I even plowed the second "driveway" so that's around 350 yards of gravel/dirt using the snow blade, and 9,000 sq.ft of asphalt using the blower.

Yeah i still need to drop my loader, install subframe and mount blower. Always a cold, profanity laced affair. I've got to get a building up this year! C'mon megamillions,

Fell another dead Ash tree today, use the L3901DT and grapple to move the logs. Got 4 60" logs out of it so far.

Was on the way to urgent care this morning and my truck got stuck in a snowdrift to the right of my garage. Tried to dig it out by hand but it wasn’t moving at all. Hooked the chain from the tractor to the truck and gave a pull and it was free. Ended up delaying the doctor visit to clear most of my driveway as I didn’t feel like having that happen again at 8am. The weather called for a few inches so I figured I’d be fine to just drive down to the road but it was around 9 inches with a ton of sleet making it real heavy.

On the bright side since my last post I have a snowblower on order and have got plenty of auger sheer bolts now I need to get the ones for the drive shaft, it’s some weird metric size. The snowblower is the SB1064 and I also ordered the QH16 quick hitch. I took some measurements of all my non standard implements and the QH16 should work with everything, so I’ll be taking the PATS quick hitch off and either selling it on marketplace or keeping it as a backup. Overall I’m looking forward to using the snowblower and not the old 4ft blade as I’m running out of places to put the snow and the tractor does not like pushing to pulling when it gets real heavy. I’ve got a 6% grade on my driveway so I’ll probably have to just only snow blow on the downhill then drive back up like I’ve been doing with the back blade.

Will do! I am looking forward to trying it out. I thought the old back blade my neighbor from my old place gave me would be more than enough but this new place I’m at just gets absolutely slammed.

Hmm weird. If the motor is working I would think it’s just not priming then. Hopefully you can get it sorted.
