I'm very anxious to get some snow this year and that's a mouthful! I'm used to using my walk-behind Husqvarna (it's also orange so I thought it would be okay to use the brand name :)) two-stage blower. I recently picked up this used G2546A this year with a used G5200H tractor; they threw in the G2003 snow blade also which is in really good condition. The tractor runs great, but still going through some clean-up and painting. Just finished the clean-up, painting and maintenance on the 2546 though and I thought I'd share how it turned out. I ordered a new impeller for it (it may end up being a shelf spare), but as it sits the drive works smoothly with no binding at all. It was in pretty rough shape being used on a LONG gravel driveway, so it should get a more gentle use on my asphalt, not to mention regular maintenance!

Awesome job, cleaned up real nice.
Two observations - might want to retrofit a couple skid plates on the bottom edge so it doesn't cut into the driveway. Maybe get a couple real shear pins, the one on the left looks a bit wonky, but hey if it works...

Very nice restoration job. I had to look up the G5200H tractor but that's going to be a lot better snow removal tool compared to a walk-behind Husqvarna, which is a lot better tool compared to a shovel. Hope you post some photos once complete and in operation.

I ran a front mounted snow blower on a BX for 5 years and have run a rear mounted snow blower on the MX for 4 years now and they're a must have for me. Every snow removal set up is a compromise in one way or another, but a blower and a blade is a really good way to go. Adding hydraulics for blade angle as well as blower chute rotation and deflector angle serve to make a good system even better.

Thank you! It has the skid plates on the back side, should be good giving it enough clearance to avoid damage. Yes, not sure what the previous owners were thinking, probably a case of just have a bolt that would fit. I bought a box of shear bolts, but they must be for the impeller because they are slightly larger than the holes on the augers.

Thank you! I completely agree with the advantages of blowers vs. shovels! I have two 150' driveways that I maintain through the Michigan winters, so I'm hoping that this rig will do the job well! I saw a setup that someone fabricated for a hydraulic chute rotation, that would be much better than the handcrank. I'm also interested in getting the hydraulic lift for the blower and blade!

With a small tractor and possibly limited GPM look into an electric actuator for the chute. There are several posts on here about actuators, hydraulic and electric. Not sure an electric actuator would be right for lifting, maybe, I have no experience one way or the other. Some have even used a winch, like on an ATV, for lift.

Update: waiting on Amazon to deliver a 12v DC motor (ASIN B0765KZ3TJ) and a left/right toggle switch (ASIN B00U1G5AR6 ) to rig up the rotation of the chute. I think it will be a fairly straight-forward installation, welding up a bracket, and connecting with a universal joint. If anyone is wondering, yes, I'll paint it orange when I'm done. ;)

Hey Tiberius great job! Nice looking setup. One additional note, I "think" you need to rotate one side of the auger 180 degrees. On my blower manual, they state they should be "opposite" so it continually feeds the blower. When they are together, it will load the blower from both sides, then have a pause, etc.

Thank you for the tip! I'll check it out before the snow flies, maybe throw some leaves in it! I didn't remove the augers and it looks like the previous owner just replaced the shear bolts with whatever he had laying around, so I don't think he took it apart either. The only new part on the blower is the PTO bearing on the back side.

I do not think rotating the auger 180 will work as the holes for the shear pins will not work!
I think you have to swop right auger for left auger end for end!

If the top of the "auger shaft" rotates away from the "blower impeller", then the augers are in the correct positon. They would both feed to the center and help lift the snow into the blower impeller.

I think you're right about the augers. I remember when I had a BX5450 front mount blower on the BX, I could position the one side of the auger incorrectly if the shear pin broke and I wasn't paying attention to the orientation. Here's the actual blower that I had, when it was new of course.

Don, you said, "I do not think rotating the auger 180 will work as the holes for the shear pins will not work!
I think you have to swop right auger for left auger end for end!"

You just unbolt one shear bolt, spin the auger on the shaft, then reinsert the shear bolt.

AAH, now I see what you guys were talking about. The augers are mounted correctly but one could be rotated in place to alternate the snow load from side to side into the blower. That make sense. 🤩

Yeah. When it's windy and -20°F out and you've been on the BX for an hour moving snow and you break a shear pin, it's easy to focus on not getting frostbite and getting the shear pin installed ASAP. Then you wonder why the blower isn't blowing as well and then you realize that the auger was rotated 180° out of phase. I've yet to break one on the bigger blower behind the MX and that's after four winters.

Good catch @ShaPow!
