2011 Kubota RTV 500 starts and runs 5 seconds then dies

I pulled the pump to check the filter. One of the terminals on the pump motor was loose.

Ok, I'm back at it after letting it sit for a bit while I got caught up on the other machines in the shop. I thought that since one of the things the ECM relies on, is air pressure readings from sensors, I'd fix the exhaust leak. Well, it turned out that the manifold was broken and had a major leak. I put a new manifold on. When I started it, it ran pretty good for a little bit, not great, but good. I was able to at least drive it. I could not do this before. The more I drove it the worse it got. I noticed the temp gauge was not going up as the engine warmed up. It got back to running the same (barely) as when I had started working on it after about 10-15 minutes. I am waiting on a temp sensor. I was sure it tested ok, we'll see. To be conti.......

Did you check the air temp sensor or the engine water temp sensor the first time around?

Yes, I checked both according to the manual. The thing that I didn't do was take the coolant sensor out and heat it up in water to watch it change. It was at the approximate ohms for the room temp. I sure hope this is it. I'm ready to call it on this thing. It has become that thing to where its about pride now. I'm def not making money on this one.

I wonder why the price of stamps had to go up. I bought the coolant sensor on Ebay from a guy in Greenwich which is 20 min away. I guess I should've just went and picked it up. It makes me wonder, how many packages are on that truck that shouldn't be.

I got the new/used coolant sensor and once again it made no difference. I'm done. I let the owner know that I had failed. He said he'll have to take it to the dealer. He said he would let me know what they do to fix it. I will post what they do as long as he lets me know. To be continued......

I checked one last thing before throwing in the towel. I thought maybe the valve timing was off. I checked it and is was correct. It's a goofy way to check the timing on this thing. The crank pulley has an arrow that you line up with a mark on the case and a paint dot on the pulley that you line up with a white line on the timing belt, then a paint mark on the cam pulley lines up with a dotted line on the belt. It works good except for the fact that its never lined up when you check it. One rotation moves the marks on the belt off the marks on the pulley by a few teeth. I'm sure there are a certain number of turns that it would eventually line up again. Dumb design once again, I'm sure it worked great on CAD.

Thanks for the reply Lugbolt. I checked the pressure and flow, all looked good. I put a new filter on also. I sent the machine back to the owner.

The owner got back to me with what was done to fix it at the dealer. They basically started changing parts until they got the correct one. They changed the MAP sensor, Intake air sensor, and the injector. All tested good when I checked them. I'm assuming the injector was the culprit, but you know what they say about assuming. If you have fuel problems with your RTV500, all I can say is good luck troubleshooting it.

Thanks for the follow up on all of this! Sounds like the parts cannon was fired. Would be nice if there was more troubleshooting information out there, but this is a good start!

querry. did he get billed for replacing the original good parts with new parts that did NOT fox the problem ?

I did not charge him for the parts that I tried and failed to fix the problem with. I still have them. The dealer did charge him of course. His bill was 782.00 from the dealer.
