BX23S - Fuel cap - lockable with key

Hi,

I just got a BX23S and notice that the fuel cap is just a regular, screw on cap.

I contacted Kubota dealership for a "lockable" fuel cap with a key. They said Kubota does not make one. I searched Amazon.ca - none available.

Does anyone know where I can buy a fuel cap with a lock?

That's funny - no I'm actually worried about foreign stuff being dropped into the gas tank. I don't have a garage to park the tractor.

My 1996-vintage M4700 has a PLASTIC fuel filler neck….. mated to a PLASTIC CAP…..

It’s HIGH on FRICTION…and a pain in the ARSE to get the threads engaged …even tho’ they are completely UN-damaged.

I wish there were a simple METAL CAP to replace that plastic cap.

A lot of us have put a coffee strainer into the tank. Fits perfectly, less than $20 (US at least) from Amazon, and keeps anything from getting in. This is what I used in my BX25D:

I think the BX23S is slightly different, so search around to see what others used.

I bought a 'mason jar coffee filter from TEMU for $14 (?) 2 years ago..... fits perfectly, about 7" tall, very fine screen..amazing what it traps !

If you are worried about someone messing with the tractor..... The coffee screen won't help you if they pour anything liquid into the tank...

Yes - that's actually what concerns me...

I had that happen to my car over 30 years ago in the city. It was just a prank - but an expensive one. Ever since then - I've always had the standard locked panel that comes with Japanese cars.

There probably nothing like this on the market - so I'll have to hack something together...

That reminds me...

My tractor had a Curtis cab on it when I bought it and as part of the kit, there was a hard fuel filler cover around the fuel cap that would've been very easy to modify with a padlock or something. You'd have to fashion up a mount since you don't have a cab, but if you could order a replacement part through your dealer, or directly through Curtis, it might be a solution. I don't know if the cab for the BX23S looks similar to my BX25D, but I doubt they reinvented too much if they didn't have to.

Cause 'Merica! If you've got a 9mm on your hip and do something stupid, that plate was really stout and could stop the average round from messing up your tank.

I really have no idea, haha, but it was one of the most heavy duty parts on the whole cab. I'm guessing it has to do with some emissions compliance mandate somewhere.

A one time use, 40' hi-cube container costs about $5,200 USD.
Maybe $6,500 CAD.?
Well worth the years of protection for a Kubota.

Thank you for your post, Speed25. This is really helpful. I will pursue it with Curtis - plus it gives me ideas of what I can try to fasten to the original cap and put a small lock on it.

I contacted Curtis Cabs and they sent me the parts list for the fuel cap cover and shroud.

I also asked him what the intended purpose is (as asked by GreensvilleJay) - and the tech support said it's to "keep the gas fumes out of the cab".
