I was changing the hydraulic filter on my Kubota L4310 today and found what appears to be gear chunks on the filter magnet. Does anyone have any ideas of what or where these are from? Any help is appreciated.

Whoa! Sure does look like teeth from a gear or two. I have to wonder how that happened and it'll be interesting to see what the experts think it is, and what caused it. I have a gear drive tractor that I plan on keeping for decades so this is the sort of thing I don't want to experience. Were there any symptoms from the hydraulics or transmission indicative of an issue, prior to removing the hydraulic filter?

Do you get along with your neighbors?

I'll be the a-hole and guess that those are broken splines.
They are clearly not gear teeth so I like your guess. The burning question is that left over from a previous repair or new.?

I also think the (unflattering??) self characterization is unwarranted....

Everybody knows @hagrid 's self-characterization is warranted/spot-on......

Of course - just poking fun. ;)

hagrid is very savvy with this kind of thing.

I always look forward to his expertise, commentary and sense of humor....funny guy.

That's why I asked about symptoms prior to the hydraulic oil filter being changed. The OP said nothing to that effect so they could well be left over from a previous failure. That would be the best outcome at this point.

Good observation by @hagrid re splines.
