New, old member here. I changed my ISP several years ago and had used the free email of my previous provider. I mostly lurked, and since my MX5100 was new, I think most of my posts were questioning Rim Guard or Calcium for tire ballast.

Anyway, I have my first problem since the 2012 purchase. This is a geared model, not hydro. I was free rolling back, with the clutch fully depressed when I heard a moderately loud "pop." (While it's no where near "best practice," there is a reason for this me doing this. And I have done it for years).

Now, the tractor will only move in low range and without any kind of load or other resistance. I have it in the shop getting ready to crack it open, but was wondering if anyone could provide insight to what may have happened. I am a "professional amature" when it comes to this stuff so any tips or tricks are welcome.

I've read a couple threads here and will cobble up some adjustable rolling stands for the front since the loader is off and the axle sound like it's prone to tipping. They be sitting on machine dollys (think lathe and machine center), so the front end can be easily moved and repositioned on re-assembly.

Thanks is advance!

What gear were you in and how fast? Could have over spun the clutch.
Also interested in your reasoning for operating like that.

If you had the clutch depressed and did not let out on the clutch, I would be very confused as to what let go.
Now if you dropped the clutch, then yea you probably broke the hub on the clutch.

Regardless, look forward to seeing what you find.

Yes you should block the front axles from allowing the engine from swaying side to side, unless you do use two rolling stands under the loader brackets, then it can't sway.

Im a hip disarticulated amputee on right right side. I leave my right foot resting on the coupled together brakes, pushing on my knee (artificial) to apply brakes. I was doing this while stacking dirt for a 120' wide shooting berm. I have done it this way for decades without issue. Well, except this time when I pressed in the clutch, and started to roll back, my prosthetic foot was on the floor board when I pushed on the knee, and it rolled back faster than normal.

I was in 2nd, low range.

Yep, I kept the clutch depressed. I'll be interested too.

Hood is off, floor board removed along with dash and lower steering cowling. I also started disconnecting the rear portions of the electrical harness. I ran out it of time this afternoon, but I might be able to sneak back to the farm and do a few more things this evening.

It's not going bad at all. I'm grabbing some magnetic trays/bowls while I'm near the Harbor Freight. I keep dropping them and I'm sure I'll knock them off the table and scatter them into oblivion at this rate.
