Howdy,

Today I snagged an old KH-027 mini excavator at auction. The engine is out if it and apart in a box. Not afraid of the project because I figure it will be great once fixed.

I'm puzzled because I've just spend over an hour trying to fine Owner's and WSM's for it and can't find anything. There are a few pics that come up when searching but that's pretty much it.

Does anyone know anything about these? I bought this thing as a starter machine figuring I'd restore it but the lack of info puzzles me. Usually Kubota is really good with technical info. I'm trying to figure out if it's basically the same model as something else but maybe with a different engine size. Not sure how the model numbering works....

I'd love copies of the owner's manual and WSM if anyone happens to have them.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Steve

The KH-027 is a 100% grey market EX.
It was never supposed to be in the US or anywhere other than Japan for that matter.

I don't think there are any manuals for that model.

If you look at the block on the flat facing up will be stamped the engine model and serial number.
Give me that number and I should be able to find you a manual on the engine.
looks like it should be a D1402

Hi Wolf,

I appreciate the info. I was starting to figure the same thing based on the lack of info. The confusing thing is all of the labels are in English. Based on that I wondered if it might be Canadian so I searched the Canadian Kubota parts catalog but didn't find anything there either.

As soon as I pick it up I'll know which engine and I'll follow up. I also came up with the 1402 from a reference on one that went up for auction. We'll see if it's right.

Finally, you wrote it is a grey market EX. Did you happen to mean KX? Not finding anything on an EX line...

Thanks for your help!

Steve

I've attached a pic the model label to this post. I didn't attach it originally because the scratch makes it tough to read but maybe it will make sense to you.

Thx!

FYI ,I've been told that since it is a 'grey' market machine, no Kubota dealer will work on it or sell parts if you use the KH-027 number. Guys find the closest 'real' machine and use that to get parts.

@Apogee - I believe Wolfman’s comment about EX refers generically to “excavator” not a specific Kubota product line.

Yep, familiar with Kubota's lack of support for grey market machines. Stupid on their part IMHO! They should be focused on selling machines to whoever wants them and simply be grateful for the sale, not be putting up artificial impediments for no reason.

EX - makes sense.

Thanks all for the help!

It seems 'grey' machines were NOT to be exported, perhaps due to USA and other federal regulations( safety ?? ) so I understand Kubota not working on them over here.
It'd be interesting to find a 'link' as to story though.
I have a bigger peeve with other companies NOT supporting the equipment they made 2-5 -10 years ago !
