Make sure wires are connected on starter solenoid first.
Could possibly be one of those two switches. Brake or Pto. Check to see if they are unplugged or damaged, if not then for test purposes only use a jumper to see if switch is gone bad.

On my 48" mower the middle zerk was angled but got slightly over tightened and I had same problem as you, I replaced it with a straight one no problems greasing now. 7 or 9 mm open end wrench to remove, Good Luck.

Replace the fuse and tested out just don't use the lights then if that solve's the start and stop issue them find out where the short is in the light's and you should be good.
The solenoid also works on a fuse and will start but not shut off if that fuse is blown but I'm not sure if it's the same fuse as the lights.

Mine has only 225 hours on it from new august 2014 just watch for leak from hst seal(repaired under warranty)Otherthan that no major issues.
