If you're not sure when the transmission was serviced last I would definitely start by changing the oil and filters. Then I would cut the filters open and look for debris.

If it were me I would pick up a 5' mower. If you have really tough heavy grass then a 4' might be better. Alot depends on the type of grass your cutting. Used mowers are always the better value. That's strange. I have a b2650 and with the PTO selector in the mid only position I can spin the shaft freely about a quarter turn.

I replaced the battery in my airplane with a new AGM this spring and so far im not impressed. It doesn't seem to hold a charge when not being used for long periods of time. For a tractor I would just purchase a cheap lead acid.
