For starters if the real issue is that Kubota switched from a steel cage thrust bearing to a plastic one $400+ is a lot of money to spend when a $25 bearing may be at the heart of the issue. And if Kubota is only selling plastic cage bearings chances are all the aftermarket sellers are stuffing...

Never mind, I already bought a replacement ballnut and shaft from them. They’re the ones that sent me a shaft 1” shorter than the OE and it had the worm gear and ballnut threads cut opposite of mine so that if I turned the steering wheel right, the wheels went left and vice versa.

That That may not be bad if I can confirm whether it has a metal thrust bearing cage.

I already did put a new ballnut and shaft in it. It was with the plastic cage bearings. As I said it lasted one week. Finding a thrust bearing of a specific size AND material without a part number is like trying to find a needle(bearing) in a haystack.

When When you say the box are you talking the transmission? Or the front diff? Personally I think the replacement thrust bearings Kubota is selling are just garbage. When my OE ones failed they were steel cage bearings. The new ones are all plastic.

I jacked the front end up this morning. Everything turned freely. I called the Kubota dealer back and they had no idea and at first suggested that I trailer the entire tractor down. Then when the person I was speaking with came back on the line, he said don’t bother because the service manager...

That ballnut assembly isn’t exactly cheap. Kubota only sells it as a complete assembly with the steering shaft for $450. I had the local dealer rebuild it with new bearings and it lasted one week. I took it back to them they replaced the bearings and adjusted the lash. I installed it yesterday...

I flipped rear wheels and pushed the hubs out and foam filled the rear tires to gain stability on my B7100. It worked great except I have been plagued by repeated ballnut failures on the steering gear since doing this. I think it’s because the rear track width being slightly wider than the front...

So the Kubota dealer hooked me up with s as new steering shaft and ball nut and put everything back together with the correct top cap shim to set the gear lash. I picked it up, put it on, filled with gear oil and it worked great until today. Now my wheels are turned all the way to the right...

I went back to my Kubota dealer. They have all the original parts as well as the new steering shaft and ballnut. None of them had seen a steering shaft with the spiral cut backwards as I had received. They were going to see what they could do to get it fixed.

Someone earlier in the thread linked to an Aeroquip site that was suppose to cross reference to compatible John Deere parts. The site seems to, unsurprisingly, no longer be up. Do you know if anyone had luck with finding bronze/steel bushings using that search?
