Hello everybody,

I've got a line on one of these mowers. I'm not sure, but I think they were produced between '98 and '03. So yes, it's OLD, but it has caught my attention for some reason. I acquired a 2011 kubota F2680 about a year ago and have grown to love that machine. Have become a big fan of Kubota diesel engines in that time.

I'm still hesitant about this machine tho. He did send a pic of the hour meter and it was just shy of 1,000 hours. My f2680 has almost 2,400 hours and still runs great! I've put about 100 on it in a year and it runs like a sewing machine.

But this TG1860 ain't a F2680. Just wondering if anyone has any pointers or advice about this machine. Will it turn into a maintenance nightmare at this age? Or worth a gamble if it checks out ok.

It is in fact diesel, so long as it's not the G model.

Hard to go wrong for $1,500. But if you have an F, what on earth would you want with a TG?

My guess is that the motor is hard to break (but people do manage it), but things like the deck are built relatively cheaply on the lower end models. It's missing the belt covers.

If you went and drove it, and it's running well enough and mowing well enough, then things will probably be OK for that money. Worst case it explodes and you sell it for parts.

Good point. Not sure why I want it exactly. It would be a good backup for my big mower and could use it in tighter spots. May be more of an impulse than anything. I just figured with it being pretty inexpensive, might be worth having around.

My luck I'd get it and have to start dumping money and time into it. My worst fear is leaking seals at that age. And lack of oil changes, filter maintenance - damaged engine.

May go check it out in a day or two. It's about 20 miles away, so not a quick ride to take a look, and I'm not super motivated. Could be a gem tho, (or a turd) who knows

If you have time and space, why not. Other people would drop $3K on a set of golf clubs. To be fair, a set of golf clubs will take up less garage space.

My guess is it's been well used, but probably still running fine. Most of them are. Might have had one owner most of its life and been maintained well. There's a reasonable chance that you do fluids and filters and drive it for years.

But if you don't really have a use for it, then surely easier to let it go to someone who does have a use? Unless you can convince your significant other to mow the hard to mow areas whilst you do the open areas on the F? That'd be worth having.....

If it was a BX that'd be a different story. Those things are a Swiss army knife. Having another tractor around with a loader, 3ph and tow hitch is always going to be useful. It looks like your only current machine is the F. I personally wouldn't get a dedicated mower as a second machine, I'd get something with a loader. You don't know what you've been missing until you get one. And as a toy/thing to play around with, a BX or small B has so many more options for things to add to it or make with it.

Thats a great point. I would like and could really use something with a loader. I did have a JD 5055e for about a year a few years ago, but didn't really have a use for a tractor that big and let it go. A smaller one with a loader would be nice to have around. My primary gig around the farm lately is to keep it mowed, and ive got tunnel vision.

However, I just noticed the guy updated his price to $1,000. Might be worth making a trip and see what I can find out.
