B1750 Mower Issue

Hi. Helping out family using the mower deck on our B1750 to mow about 6 acres. Also doing some work removing small rocks from a newly filled area, hand raking and collecting in the bucket to dump on our growing rock pile.

The mower suddenly seems bound up. I had been using it (almost) no problem until after dumping some rocks I could no longer move forward or back without stalling. I'm still getting used to the levers and shifters, but I used the lever to raise the mower deck and everything seemed fine for the moment. Not sure why it was low at that moment. But I was able to run the machine for a few hours and put it away. Yesterday I wanted to mow and I could not because every time I engaged the mower the tractor wanted to stall out. Same situation as before except raising the belly mower didn't fix the problem.

I know I need to inspect the mower unit itself to see if anything is causing it to be bound up. My question that could save me time is this. I don't fully understand all the levers including whether there is a Mid PTO brake. I've been using the parking brake on a slope. Are those connected somehow. I've engaged and disengaged the mid PTO for the mower 4 or 5 times hoping it would start working. I see there is a differential lock lever, a 2wd to 4wd shift lever. Does the mid pto require these other setting be set a certain way? Like only 2WD or only 4WD? Differential lock vs unlocked.

Printing off sheets from the manual and heading over to inspect mower deck as best I can and to check settings on levers.

BTW my B1750 uses a shift lever for forward reverse etc. I saw another owner here with foot pedals for forward and reverse. So different setups for the B1750 I guess.

Mid mount mowers are designed to mow lawns. They are not designed to mow untended areas. What are you mowing?

Apparently, your gear drive B1750 is not a HST. Accordingly, drive is controlled by a foot clutch and gear shift levers, rather than a HST (foot) pedal. The 2/4WD lever and differential lock pedal operate independently of the clutch and gear change controls.

It appears that your MMM deck is prevented from turning. This can be the result of spindle bearing or belt failure, other damage or, more likely, debris of some sort clogging the deck or belt.

Remove the belt covers to inspect the belt and inspect the underside of the deck for debris, something wrapped around one or more blades, or damage.

It appears that your MMM deck is prevented from turning. This can be the result of spindle bearing or belt failure, other damage or, more likely, debris of some sort clogging the deck or belt.

Remove the belt covers to inspect the belt and inspect the underside of the deck for debris, something wrapped around one or more blades, or damage.

Thank you for the reply SDT. I feel lucky because it worked fine all morning. After putting it away yesterday I reached under the mower and pushed the blades. Seemed like a lot of resistance at first but then started turning more easily. That might have freed it up. Today I backed it out and examined the diagrams for all the levers. Then tried the mower and it ran fine. I got to use the hi-speed lo-speed setting. I'm mowing a slope today and have to go straight up and then back down. Problem was I'm prepping to seed and it was somewhat bare and dusty, with wind of 25 so I needed speed going up and a nice safe crawl without mowing backing down. Otherwise I'd have a face full of dust the entire time especially at a crawl. The shifting was pretty smooth. Good to get more familiar with this machine

Most of the mowing is on land that has not been tilled in ages. We grow Christmas Trees on a big chunk so the area around that is pretty flat. There is an area that's been taken over by wild raspberries. One of my sibling got the mower tangled up in it. I tried it in small strips and didn't have a problem with them getting tangled.

Once i get this slope area seeded I'll be looking into removing the belt covers to keep the belts as debris free as possible. Thank you SDT for the reply.

Given the age of the tractor do you remember the last time the deck had any regular maintenance? Clean it up and as SDT said, GREASE it up!!! Replace the belt if needed, sharpen the blades, etc.

Your tractor can operate a three point mounted 42" rough-cut (bush hog type) mower in most conditions and a 48" one in some conditions.

The Kubota was new in 1991 and we purchased it used in 2018 for $7500. It came with a 60" MMM but that was replaced with a different MMM that was supposedly 6" smaller than the original. The original had some serious issues, probably from lack of maintenance and mis-use and the mechanic said it wouldn't be worth us paying to fix it. I did take some pictures which I'll upload. It looks like one of the covers was intentionally cut open. I took both covers off and cleared grass and leaves out. I did not see any model # but there were some informational labels including one that was partially cut away when the cover was cut open before we owned it.
