I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a .45-70 in an old Springfield trapdoor rifle. That thing was a killer on one end and a crippler on the other. Quite capable of stopping a rhino. That’s a HUGE chunk of lead. Otherwise, shooting old surplus 8mm Mauser rounds in a Gehwer 88 is quite violent too. Can’t imagine shooting those in anything lighter than an 88. It’s as long as a fence rail and just about as heavy.I haven't had the chance to fire one yet. Gotta wonder how it compares to a .454 Casull, which I love shooting, or a .45-70 in a Thompson Contender. That's a kick in the tank. .308 in a bolt-action handgun is a pussy cat next to the .44-70.
