I got this guy yesterday around 7:30am using the rifle I showed in a previous post. I dragged him back using a sled and the M6060 and used the "gutless method" to get the meat off him.

SP101 in .22lr. It is an 8 shot, my go to pistol for trapping. I used CCI Quiet ammo. Just a little pop, but enough for small game.

Nice elk, from your property?

Cool. I have a 3" SP101 ... great revolver.

Yes, I shot the elk on my property. I woke up this morning with elk around the house. A bunch were bedded down outside the kitchen window. It's hard to get good photos with the old Samsung phone that I have but here's the best that I got this morning.

The bull shown on his own in the last photo, and with cows in other photos is not a legal bull to shoot up here in MT. You have to look closely before pulling the trigger. I watched the bull that I shot for around 20 minutes before taking the shot. He was 230 yards from the house at the time and the 168gr Barnes TSX did a great job.

I have bird feeders out all winter long and the whitetail deer stop by many times a day to forage for sunflower seeds that litter the snow. This little guy (and another bigger buck) regularly stop by and he was under the feeders this morning. I think he's one of a number of fawns that have been visiting with their mothers over the years, since they are very comfortable hanging out beneath the kitchen window.

I have four to six bucks on the property that I see all spring and summer long but see less often over the winter months. I'm not going to shoot these guys since they're more like pets than prey these days.

Yeah, I've never seen a mule deer on my property, and I'm not even sure if I've seen one in the Flathead Valley. I've hunted mule deer out in Belt near Great Falls, MT where there are many. As you head over the Rocky Mountain Front going East they become very abundant. That said, the biggest mule deer I've ever seen (a mount) was shot in the Whitefish area but that was 10 years ago or so.

I'm forced sometimes to shoot Feral Hogs from my back porch ...when they get in the pasture behind the house.

But my Daughter (when she was 14 yrs old) shot a Buck from her bedroom window early one Saturday Morning. I was already up and watching TV but my Wife was still in bed asleep. All of the sudden we heard a big boom and really didn't know what it was for a moment.

Of course that set our Dachshunds and Lab Pup to barking and I went to go see what the heck was going on. It was deer season and we were actually going to go hunting that afternoon. But my Daughter had spotted a buck working its way down the tree line next to the pasture. Grabbed her 7mm-08, lifted the window and made the 150 yd. shot.

Her Mother put the 'NIX' on any more shooting from the house! Startled her (my wife) so badly.

Shot down to my land today to check snow depth and a few trail cams.
Our gun season in Wi starts Saturday morning.

My blind is in the back round. The trail that these deer use angles across the blind about 25 yards in front and then runs along side as shown. Of course all of this action changes opening morning! :). Ignore the time stamps (I really need to set the date and time on this cam), for reference the snow came this Tuesday the 15th.

Looks like a quite heavily used trail, but you already knew that when the blind was placed there. ;)

I think more the case of I lucked out! LOL My land has changed a lot since I first set the blind. It has gone thru major track loader forestry mulching , herbiciding for invasive species, no till native seed drilling, two track driving trails and a major non native scot pine die off due to pine wilt caused by nematodes. I do however see an increase in all species , slow but sure on the place.

Good luck hunting Ken. You have some nice deer on your property. It's going to be a chilly weekend for sure. The rut isn't over yet, so movement of the bucks on their own should be good enough for a successful hunt. Keep the heater cranked for a long sit!
