It might be just like TP, and people survived that ... But, I may to need fill my diesel/gasoline 5 gallon cans tomorrow to make sure I have what I need for my tractor/ranger etc. for this Winter.

However, isn't there only 19 days left? ;)

No, any intelligent and well-trained pilot would know the weight of the required fuel to make it to his/her destination safely and compensate for variables such as headwinds causing additional fuel usage.

I found another article discussing it.

One thing that caught my eye in the article was this:

"U.S. refineries are churning out less diesel and exporting more amidst a period of high demand."

So since more is being exported, the shortage is being created worst in the US.

Why not? It can easily be refilled.
At what cost to the American taxpayers? If it were not for Trump filling it, it would be bone dry with the amount that Biden has already removed from the reserve. It isn't the crude oil that we need it is the refined product, and there hasn't been a new refinery built in the last 50 years. Not much you can do with crude oil before it is refined.

It was not filled by trump. It has been filled, periodically used, and refilled for many decades. Oil is a commodity under GSA contract that is bought by the government at very advantageous prices. You are correct that there have been no new refineries built for many decades, but all of the refineries I’m familiar with in my state have been in a constant state of expansion and modernization as a normal routine of doing business. It’s not like the refineries are still running with 50 year old technology or they have the same production capacities.

Then why hasn't any meaningful amount been added since 2020? And why is it at the lowest level since Reaganomics were in full effect?

Why are you fixated on this? It’s bought when oil prices dip and used when oil prices are high. US oil production this year is at the same level as 2019 and planned to set a new record in 2023. But worldwide prices are still high and because we export oil and fuel, the US prices are subject t

Here's why.

Say we need to replenish half of the 714,000,000 barrels, or about 350,000,000 barrels. In March-August 2020 oil was an average of about $35/barrel. Today, hovering at an average of about $85. My calculator gives me an error at the price difference, but I believe that its $17,000,000,000. But your right, whats another wasted 17 trillion.

People need to wake up. This HUGE cost difference just doesn't appear from thin air (well I guess it does they will just print more)--thats why.

Further, what if we need that oil. It is meant for our military purposes not for trying to lower gas by $0.11/gallon for a couple of months to try and win an election

Dont forget to subtract the gross amount realized by selling at $85 or higher.

It's also worth noting that if the oil was purchased at $35 the government is netting $50 per barel on the current sales.

You beat me to it. He'll look like a genius saving the country just prior to election day! Thanks Joe! or is it Jose'? :)

Or, perhaps that may be too political and the comment should be stricken from the record.

You are trying to explain the facts of current inflation/oil pricing, to a person who thinks he knows everything about everything.
Rational explanations/facts just ain't gonna work!

My point was that having more fuel “in storage” than needed in the short term is expensive and wasteful. Having 3 weeks of fuel in storage is pretty typical and NOT “news”.

Three weeks of gas/diesel is enough to assure uninterrupted transportation within our economy?
Living very close to the edge!

You are obviously too young to remember gas rationing (sugar etc.).
Some months ago three weeks of toilet paper:poop: was not enough.
Apparently absolutely nothing has been retained from that little lesson!
