I bought my L4060 (-LE but since added most/all items from L4060). I'd love to have a skid loader auger, or skid loader chipper/shredder. These items use hydro power and it seems the L4060's hydro needs some viagra.

I also didn't have any rear hydro when I bought it. The farmer next door was explaining how the float function could help keep an implement set level with the earth regardless of the tractors mild up/down over hills(bumps), valleys(divots). Now I've got to have it.

I need to aquire all of the three point plumbing, joysticks new? used? aftermarket?
Since I'm considering this, would it be worth considering upgrading the pump to the L47 pump? More volume, power.

You have float on the FEL. I've heard that the dealer can "tweak" the hydraulics up a little but, I have no personal knowledge of how that affects anything else, or how much it gives you.

As a previous skid steer owner now tractor owner. The tractor will never be a SS, it just isn't built for the constant abuse. I chose to go the tractor route this time for lots of reasons and don't regret my decision.

SS attachments are really heavy too, IMO if you need or want SS attachments stay with a SS or CTL.

Adding rear remotes is very doable. Lots of info here on OTT on that.

And, welcome aboard!

You can get an SSQA auger that your tractor will power, as is, with a third function setup.

As for a chipper/shredder, you'd do better with a 3PH model.

I don’t have a skid steer. I looked at them pretty hard when choosing a machine to maintain our property and obviously ended up with a tractor. One of the very basic differences: tractors have a PTO, skid steers and CTLs do not have a PTO.

The huge difference that makes in tractor v skid steer attachments is if you have an implement such as a rotary cutter or chipper that requires a substantial percentage of the engine power to run, an implement designed for a tractor will use the PTO to access that power. While you can run a hydraulic motor with the tractor hydraulics it’s going to be quite limited as that’s not really what the tractor hydraulics were designed to do.

A skid steer or CTL will use hydraulics for transferring large portions of engine power as that’s the only option for powering implements. So the skid steer/CTL hydraulic system is designed to handle the higher flow and associated cooling requirements to accomplish that large power transfer.

So yes, there is some overlap in implements that either can run off the hydraulics. A post hole auger is a good example of that. There are high flow augers that won’t work well with the lower flow rates common to tractors but there are also low flow augers designed to work with the typically lower flow rates of tractors so you can still take advantage of the down pressure and reversibility the hydraulics provide mounting it on the loader instead of the 3 point and PTO. By contrast, a rotary cutter or chipper designed for a skid steer is highly unlikely to work well on a tractor as there are (to my knowledge) no low flow options since the tractor versions of those implements rely on the PTO for the bulk of the power requirement.

Bottom line, it’s generally not advisable to attempt to run skid steer attachments on a tractor rather than utilizing implements designed to work on a tractor because the basic design parameters are very different from the outset of the implement design process.

Yes, you could upgrade the hydraulic pump in the tractor or hook a hydraulic power pack to the PTO to really ramp up the flow rate for something such as an offset ditch bank mower. More commonly if you really want/need to run implements designed for a skid steer/CTL, you need a skid steer/CTL to accomplish adequate performance.

I want float on the 3ph, presently have no rear hydraulics, need a DIY on the rear hydraulics.

I hope there's a DIY thread on this, my dealer is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I don't have a SS, that's why I'm thinking of using the front end of the tractor, if at all possible.

Thank you for the detailed explanation that makes perfect sense.
Guess I'll have to tell the wife I need to purchase a Bobcat ;)

Sorry, needed to edit and clean up the missing bits, editing on phone is a disaster. I need to carry a keybd with me!

BTY: I have a 3pt Chipper/Shredder, but having two running at once would increase my productivity, my son loading one, while I load the other.

If you want an L47 buy one and sell your machine. That is your cheapest and fastest option.
I was originally thinking of that, but most of my work is 3PT, so the L47 was not the best choice for a one tractor household.

Thought is to change that, buy a second tractor, but cheap, used brand x?
