Good evening everyone. I'm not new to equipment by any stretch, but I've just purchased a B7510 and seen it had a 980 rear pto option. I can't for the life of me figure out how to select it, or where the lock plate that needs removed to operate it is. I have a finish mower for an old yanmar that had a 1k rpm rear pto that I kept and would like to use it on my new (to me) kubota.

Thanks,Sean

Not sure on your tractor but on my L185 there is a shift lever for the three speed Pto that is just to the left of the gear shift lever.

Is the lock plate any where near the lever to select the pto on/off? How do you get the pto turned on for any speed now?

There's a lever for to select the front and/ or the rear pto. When you flip the seat up there's a sticker that says to remove the lock plate for the 980 rear pto. I assume it's on the same shifter as I could move it back a bit farther but I have no idea what exactly I'm looking for. I haven't seen anything around the linkage that looks like it may be a lock or limit plate. I'll try to get some pictures up of it tonight after work. See if I'm just missing something.

On my B7200 its just a metal tab on the PTO shift lever guide plate. If it has been removed you would not know it was ever there. The PTO gear shift lever simply has three positions - 540, neutral, and 980 with neutral in the middle. WAG - since your mid-PTO is also high speed I would look for a fourth position beyond the mid-PTO position. - eg both mid and rear PTO running @ 980.

Just remember that when you have the rear PTO in the higher speed, the mid PTO is also spinning. It turns at 2500 rpm. If you are in tall grass the mid pto could get wound up with grass. If that happens it can damage the oil seal.

Roger that. I hadn't thought of that. I may have to make a shield up for it. The field I mow is close to 4 acres. Normally it only gets mowed once a month so the grass can get pretty tall. Didn't have to worry about it with the old tractor.
Thanks all, you saved me from having to buy another mower!

The dealer may be able to get a cover for that mid pto for not many dollars.

They have a plastic slip on cover for the L185 rear pto that was a few bucks and works well to keep the shaft clean. I don’t think the mid pto shaft is the same size as the rear though??

Nice, I'll check this weekend. I'm stopping by a dealer to pick up some new(used) wheels for the rear and an owners manual. I'll ask and see if they offer a cover for the mid pto.

Dieseldonato - I don't believe Kubota has/had a cover for the MMM pto shaft for the B75XX/B76XX tractors. Others on this and other forums have suggested finding a length of flexible plastic tubing of appropriate internal diameter.
