Topping off 4wd gear box

I need to top off the front gear box on my 4wd. It holds 2 quarts, but if I’m topping off, how do I know when it’s full? Can it be over filled?

Yes it can be overfilled and if it is you will likely wind up blowing some seals. Typically front axle cases are only filled about half way. There is a plug that is removed where the oil can flow out once you reach that level.

Here is a video of an oil change procedure on an L series which is a little different than yours but the principal is basically the same.
